MethodologyAll OBESSU’s activities follow a methodology where the participants are involved both in the activities themselves and in shaping them. Instead of being “taught” something, they learn from each other through active participation, often based on non-formal learning methods. Furthermore, the activities are shaped in a way that the activities themselves are only one part of a longer project; once the activities are over the participants are expected to spread what they have learned throughout their home organisation.ActivitiesThe proposed activities are somewhat different from each other and can roughly be divided into the following categories.Capacity-building events. Study Session, “Tools for Schools” project (incl. Summer School) and School Methods 2020 are activities in which all our member organisations come together, learn about a certain topic related to education and then plan a follow-up based on what they have learned.Direct meeting with decision-makers. The Convention: Education & Work and the political representations are examples of how OBESSU meets up directly with decision-makers, giving them school students’ perspectives on a certain topic and influence future decision-making in the right direction.Statutory meetings. This includes GA, COMEM, Board meetings and Monitoring Committee meeting.Working Groups (WGs). In 2016 we will have a WG on VET, a WG on education reforms and a WG on the OBESSU Political Platform. Campaigns. This includes 17 November (Int. Students’ Day) and Curricula 2.0 (campaigning for more learner-centred curricula).These activities are often connected to each other. For example, School Methods 2020 will be part of the wider campaign Curricula 2.0, and the Summer School will be part of a one-year project on active participation of young people (“Tools for Schools”).Target groupOur “core” target group is secondary school students, most of them 16-19 years old and enrolled either in general or vocational secondary school. However, with our activities we are also aiming at reaching a broader audience, including policy-makers (European, national and regional/local level), partner organisations, learners from other sectors and young people in general.Expected resultsThe arguably most important result of our activities is that our participants, and by extension the target group in general, will become active citizens in wider society, who feel interest and ownership of both their education and of European policy-making. For these, during 2016, the project Tools for Schools will work specifically in producing educational activities and an online platform including information on how to set up youth organisations, take part in decision-making processes or how to organise campaigns. By being the only representative of secondary school students at European level, OBESSU is in an excellent position to influence the policy level. We were recently (Oct 2015) invited to join the European Credit system for Vocational Education and Training (ECVET) Users’ Group and we are already an observer member of the Advisory Committee on Vocational Training (ACVT). Concretely, through our activities we will reach 350 young people directly and a lot more indirectly. We will be represented at 40 meetings with decision-makers, reaching hundreds of decision-makers who will hopefully take our views into account
