My Way. Helping youth under risk of deviance to find a new project of life

The youth deviance is an important phenomenon in Europe, which produces high costs in social and economic terms. It involves young people living in disadvantaged or high-density crime areas, minors and young people in the itineraries of justice, young people drop out from school careers.One of the needs that emerges in this context is the professional development of the operators who are in direct contact with this category of learners.The aim of the project is to create a training course on techniques and on methodological approaches for youth workers working in the area of young people at risk of deviance. In particular, the course will focus on autobiographical methods of digital storytelling, aimed to bring out in young people individual competences and skills, developed in non-formal and informal contexts.The project is aimed to educators and youth workers from different European countries, with no age limit, which operate mainly in the field of youth deviance.The training course is carried out through an active methodology, in which participants are invited not only to learn about the skills and abilities required, but also to experience them directly through games, activations, which allow to apply them directly in the situation, to better understand them and test their effectiveness.In the first phase, participants will be guided to the reflection on the methods of digital storytelling to be applied in the context of youth at risk of deviance. In the next step, educators will experience methods on themselves, using a "learning by doing" approach.The final stage is dedicated to the technical transfer of methods in their educational settings work.The project includes a single activity, a training course for 30 trainers and animators who work with young people and is divided into three phases:1) Preparatory activities - the coordinator will be responsible to plan every step of the project, the partners have the task of disseminating information about the project with the aim to select a group of youth workers interested in the themes of the course.2) Training course - the course lasts six days and consists of several stages: presentation of participants and team building; knowledge of the project's theme and of the different fields of application; implementation of methodologies,ù; depth study on the use of the instruments of European certification. The methodologies used for the implementation of the digital story telling activities will draw all to the sphere of informal methods: digital storytelling laboratory; methodological experiences of role playing; use of the method of the story circle; use of the technique of cooperative learning and learning by doing. Each participant will have access to content and material provided by the trainers: video, booklets, tutorials, articles.3) Evaluation, follow-up and reporting. The evaluation of the project will be coordinated by the applicant organization, through the creation of ad hoc questionnaires useful to assess the knowledge and skills of the selected trainers. The follow-up activities is important to disseminate the results of the project and to share the methodologies developed by the community of origin of each trainer.The training will have an impact on the preparation of the group of participants increasing skills in working with young people living in a state of unease, the potential of participants in each work contexts, and will enable them to replicate the training proposal in the countries of origin by multiplying the results of the initial training provided by the project.Project partners will increase, through training of the staff beneficiaries of the project, the potential and expertise of the organizations proposing projects of social inclusion and reintegration of young people at risk of deviance, using educational methodologies in non-formal and informal contextAnother impact is given by the creation of an informal network between the participating organizations, which will create further projects.Finally, not least, the increased capacity, obtained from the activity of netwoking and lobbying at the institutional level, in relation to the field of young people at risk of deviance in Europe.
