Date du début: 15 janv. 2015, Date de fin: 14 déc. 2015 PROJET  TERMINÉ

This project consisted of a youth exchange which took place in Wales, United Kingdom during July 2015. The project was carried out over a period of 11 months and involved the participation of an informal group of young people from Malta and organisations from Wales, Denmark and Italy. 32 youths and 8 youth leaders participated in this project. The idea of this project came about after the belief that such experience could provide a unique opportunity for young people facing extreme social hardships to believe in themselves, to help them feel less marginalised and to help them understand that they too have a crucial and active role to play in society. The general objective of our project was to help young people appreciate more what surrounds them and how they can become more respectful towards others irrespective of any difficulties which they would be experiencing in their everyday lives. We also wanted to instill in them the value of respect and how they need to take care of what surrounds them and their relationships with people so that they can live happier respectful lives while feeling a greater sense of belonging towards society. The main objectives of this project were: - to learn to respect others and our surroundings - to help participants feel less marginalised and part of the community - not institutionalized - to expose participants to different activities that may help them in their professional and personal lives - to learn from each other; cultures, invoke their sense of creativity and promote more active and healthier lifestyles Numerous non-formal activities have been organised which attracted the attention and interests of the participants involved. The main learning method used during this exchange was a learning by doing approach whereby the activities planned gave participants a greater sense of confidence in themselves that they too can achieve something. In fact, the main learning outcomes were that the young people came together and improved their self-concept, self esteem and personal effectiveness which altogether can help them to develop different attitudes and behaviour within society. This project and in particular the youth exchange has helped participants to: - experience a greater feel of belonging and inclusion towards and within society - improve their behaviors following interaction with others and learn to trust and work in a team - have greater respect for other participants' opinions and cultures - have greater respect towards the environment - have greater understanding of the importance of living active healthier lifestyles - have more exposure to different life skills and other skills that can help them in their professional and personal lives - experience a different environment but feeling safe nonetheless in an environment other than an institution - allow them to have easier access to other opportunities because of the certification that they would have acquired Overall, the main focus of this project has been about bringing change and providing an equal opportunity and a chance for young people who face extreme hardships to experience something different. Something which has the potential to change their lives and assist them to live healthier and happier lives. In order to make sure that all these aims and objectives are met throughout the project and in particular during the Youth Exchange, an APV was held. During this visit, one youth leader and one young person met in Wales to discuss which best way to carry activities so that the young people could acquire new skills, knowledge and attitude.
