"Live Museum: Romanians around us"
Traditions are the defining mark of a nation, the symbol on which from immemorial time imperishable values have settled, treasures that should not be forgotten or abandoned. The roots, the soul, the music, the nature, the faith, the purpose and ordinances of life, in a word the eternity, are elements of the Romanian soul and nation. It is a moral duty, a primary obligation of today's generations to preserve and conserve all that along time has represented the soul of the village: traditions and customs, all that we have inherited, what defines us or characterizes us and makes us original in the big European family and into the world. Be it Christmas, Easter, funerals, births, baptisms, weddings, the customs and traditions are common to all Romanians - and here we refer to three neighbouring areas, Oltenia and Timok Valley in Serbia and Bulgaria. Although Romanians in Bulgaria and Serbia do not have Romanian schools nor laws that could help them much, on both banks of the Danube, the Romanians continue for centuries the same customs and crafts. And so that this wealth not to be lost, those who still preserve it have to pass it to young people who will pass it at their turn to their children.
The project aims to promote Romanian folk traditions, culture and spirituality in the three Romanian territories: Oltenia, Serbian Timok and Bulgarian Timok. The project aims also to give value to the creative and entrepreneurial potential of young volunteers in the 3 partner organizations, actively participating in the social and cultural life of the community. To achieve this goal, the project will involve both older generations of Romanians in the three areas, keepers of traditions and spirituality, and especially young people from Oltenia and from the both sides of Timok, who will learn these traditions from the elders and will pass them on.
