Music empowers global youth
Date du début: 1 sept. 2011,

The main objective of the project is to enhance active youth participation in all aspects of the music sector worldwide, and through this to empower young people to take on a more active role in shaping their future as citizens of Europe and the world,The Youth Advisory Group (YAG) of the IMC was established in 2009 to enhance active youth participation and mobility in the IMC and in the music sector worldwide. The YAG works in close cooperation with the Working Group Youth (WGY) of the EMC and intends to build upon the successes of its Youth in Action funded Access! Project and further promote the resulting Manifesto for Youth and Music in Europe on an international level. The World Forum on Music in September in Tallinn brings together 300+ cultural operators from all continents, at least 50 under the age of 30. The overall theme is "Music and Social Change": the YAG is actively involved in shaping the entire programme and is leading several interactive sessions, as well as two meetings for young delegates to further expand and develop the YAG and its network. In December six young people will complete work-shadowing placements in Paris, Bonn and Munich, and be part of the IMC's delegation to the 5 Ordinary Session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. Workshops will help participantsto evaluate what they have learnt and put it in the context of European and international youth policy and work.At a meeting for young people in January in Paris capacity building workshops will be led by the 20 young participants as well as experts from the field of international cultural policy. Here the future strategy, structure and activities of the YAG will be determined.Participants from China will participate in all activities and the focus of the cooperation between European and Chinese musicians will be the Menuhin Competition in April in Beijing. Young citizens of Europe andChina will use the common medium of music to foster intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding, and to ensure the future development of these ties. The project will culminate at the European Forum on Music in April in Istanbul where young people will present the outcomes to a wide audience (150+ participants from all over the world, at least 35 under the age of 30)The results will be disseminated online and in print through the extensive networks of the IMC and partners. The high profile events will ensure broad press coverage and the impact will be on a local, European and international level. Sustainable partnerships and networks of young people and youth and cultural organisations worldwide will be developed, most prominently the YAG., and young people from across the globe will gain the necessary experience, competences and empowerment to enhance their mobility and employability in the music sector and society as a whole.
