Music Against Racism

Venue: Liverpool, United Kingdom. Activity type: A multilateral exchange involving inter cultural music workshops and peer to peer learning. The theme: 'Music Against Racism’ brings together young people from minority backgrounds and culturally diverse communities to explore issues around combating racism and discrimination and celebrating European cultural diversity through the development and promotion of music.Objectives: For the participants to create a collaborative music work that promotes Europe as a multicultural multi faith society; For the participants to share and reflect on how racism effects their lives and communities; For the participants to develop strategies for combating racism through arts and musical activities; For the participants to celebrate the range of cultural communities taking part in the project (European, African, Caribbean etc); For young people to have played a active part in the development and delivery of a collaborative inter cultural music project that communicates anti racists messages to the wider community; For the participants to have presented their work to a wider peer audiences.Duration: 12 days of programmed activity. The countries involved: This multilateral exchange involves participants from United Kingdom, Portugal, France and the Netherlands . The number of participants: 64 people an in total.The implemented activities and the methods applied: The project will host a number of inter cultural workshops delivered by professional facilitators, plus peer led skills sharing sessions, visits and workshops to young people outside of the exchange, as well as making a professional recording of their collaborative work. Through these creative activities the participants will devise inter cultural performance work and present this to wider peer audiences. Throughout the project there will be ongoing digital evaluations, cultural visits, information relating to future actions and projects within the YIA programme.
