Political upheaval which started in Syria in March 2011 encountered Turkey with one of the widest waves of immigration of its history.Turkey gave ‘temporary safe keeping’ statue for Syrian Citizens whom Turkish Government allowed to enter the country by reason of its political policy, in accordance with International Refugee Laws and International Laws Precedents.Thus Syrian people were struggled to be hosted as guests in some sense and to supply every need of them with camps where were placed in some regions. (2012, The survey report about tent cities where Syrian Refugees were hosted .)But some surveys revealed that Syrians outside the camp area were called as ‘Ignored’ or ‘often-ignored’ and that not only Commonwealth Facilities but also Civil Society Facilities must be supplied for that problem.And also most of the refugees who are ignored or weren’t able to join camps, have been coming Tokat and the number of the Refugees has been increasing day by day recently.According to Official Records, Tokat has 177 refugees-immigrants-students.(appendix 1). According to the results of needs analysis in both our country and our school, refugees needs a great number of things.The percentage of Education requirements is bigger than other requirements.A lot of problems have been seen in a questionnaire study that was carried out in order to identify the most essential Education requirements of our refugee students.The study revealed that the problem of ‘Education Integration’ is 51 per cent,’ language problem’ is 19 per cent , ‘Stationery Requirements’ problem is 10 per cent, ‘School Registration’ problem is 1 per cent. Those requirements were thought as problems , SWOT analysis was made and it was written in City Strategic Plan.In order to solve that problem, it is a great essential for our teachers to take a course about it.So our Project has an aim to improve lingual and vocational skills that will have realize the integration of refugees, immigrant students who was hosted in our counrt as staless , foreigners who are under temporary protection to the Educational System in order to have quality education.Hereby our teachers are foreseen to decrease that problem to minimum level by the means of an education course eligible for Eurostandards.Within the context of the Project, a consortium with 4 schools was constituted in the leadership of Research and Development Unity of Tokat Local National Education Management.Total teacher number of Consortium is 179 and the number of the students is 2849.Within the context of the Project, 12 teachers will take part in a structured course acitivity in Prag in Czech Republic. Content of the course:Immigrant Integration Programme Content DAY 1 MeetingCoping skills for mourn and bereavementsDAY 2 Respect the cultural differencesThe skill for establishing social bonds in a foreign environment DAY 3 The skill for separation of inner world conflicts from cultural conflictsDAY 4 Improving empathy skillsThe skill for adaptation to a new environment and communicationDAY 5 Improving the skills for interpretation the defence mechanisms against homesicknessDAY 6 Improving the coping skills for the difficulties of language learning and usageBringing up a psychologically strong children as an immigrantDAY 7 Migration Stress Management MethodsConflict ResolutionDAY 8 The skills for anger managementDAY 9 Immigrant Rights and CitizenshipImmigrant rights to healthImmigrant rights to educationDAY 10 The skills for improving self respectThe numbers of immigrant students in schools according to the report of education inspectors department and the districts of schools are taken into consideration in the process of selecting consortium members. Local in-service training sessions will be given by the staffs who have taken part in the course to reach all the schools which have immigrant students in our city.A management team consists of legal representatives of consortium members and Research and Development Department of Provincial Directorate for National Education will work in project works. This team has already distributed the duties and will run the project in coordination if the project is accepted.Working more active and efficient with the students in the learning environment, the teachers will provide them to develop different problem solving methods, graduate as HAPPY individuals who can IMAGINE THEIR OWN FUTURE and become more equipped before heading to the uncertain future of young immigrants at the end of the project. Furthermore, improving the lifelong learning culture and europeanness culture, establishing different learning partnerships by our teachers and institutions, raising awareness for economical, social and environmental problems and improving the tolerance atmosphere in our city are the expected impacts at the end of the project.
