TERMINÉ
The project is based on European Council calling on EU members in 2012 as well as Bruges Communication. It is necessary to increase the number of trainees and apprentice and encourage co-operation between vocational schools and employers, integrate training programmes (where possible), make work-based learning more effective. The Cedefop research shows that these factors have a positive effect on youth employment and economic competitiveness.
Work-based learning is extremely popular in many European countries. It has long-lived traditions and has justified itself. Practical training takes place in real workplace whereas training establishment provides students with new particular theoretical knowledge. This learning process helps an employee to acquire all the necessary competences for a specific job.
This form of learning has been recently put into practice in Lithuania. Thus, it is believed the project will help to gain experience from foreign partners and learn how to organize student training in real workplace. Employers suggest introducing new technologies to students during learning process and, if possible, teaching them how to work with specific computer programmes.
These items have been reflected in the strategic plans of Klaipeda Tourism School and Vilnius Tourism and Trade School. The goal is to improve the quality and effectiveness of educational teaching as well as develop co-operation with social partners, i.e. companies, in Lithuania and abroad.
The official statistics and employment agencies state that essential problem in today‘s labour market is lack of right professionals. Because of the situation employers are looking for potential employees who seek to acquire a profession. It is important for students to acquire both theoretical and practical knowledge so that they could easily adapt to conditions in labour market and be able to apply acquired theoretical knowledge effectively.
Students gain their abilities and skills at school and companies during their practical training. The teachers preparing these students need to be highly competent in order to provide them with high quality education correspondent to the needs of labour market. Professional training teachers have to constantly improve their technology competencies both in Lithuania and foreign companies involved in hospitality business.
Another important aspect is establishment of sectoral practical training centres.
Participants of the project are vocational education teachers teaching at Klaipeda Tourism and Vilnius Tourism and Trade Schools. The teachers are reponsible for educating future professionals involved in catering, trading, management and tourism business. Oher participants are administration representatives who plan teaching process, and social partners from joint stock company ‚Biskvitas‘ and Amberton Klaipeda Hotel.
32 participants, among them vocational education teachers and employers‘ representatives, would be able to observe the organization of work-based teaching in Germany, England, Spain, Italy. The countries have been chosen for their success in implementing dual, apprenticeship-based teaching in companies for many decades. The participants would also visit vocational schools. Having implemented this project, the present methods of school-based and work-based practical training would have been improved.
