The title of the projectInnovation in methodologyAs the secondary grammar school of our town we put great emphasis on all aspects of education. Besides academic subjects, teaching modern languages is our strategically important target. Classes specialised in languages and intensive language preparatory classes (NYEK) were first launched in 2005. The base of high quality language teaching is the highly qualified language teacher of up-to-date skills and methodological repertoire. With our project we aim at the professional and methodological innovation of teachers of modern languages. The goals of the projectThe participants of the projects will get to know a whole range of methodological tools and innovations from the general adaptable second language issues to the language specific didactic issues. One focus of the project is the potential exploitation of ICT (information and communication technology) tools, and different media productions (blog, podcast etc.). Integrating ICT in the classroom is not only a new way of learning languages, but it also promotes communication and motivation in and out of the classroom. Meeting the needs of the colleagues, our institution, and the EU the courses were chosen to embrace cooperative techniques, teamwork, learner-centred, and communicative language teaching approaches in a practical way. The participants of the project are able to use and adapt their new knowledge and skills in the intensive language preparatory classes, the language specialised classes and the general language classes as well. Efficient foreign language communication is an essential requirement in the EU workforce market, for which we prepare our students at the highest possible level.Other goals of the project include promoting life-long learning, and passing on common European values and norms so as to make our students open to other cultures and European aspects. In accordance with the Pedagogical Programme of the school we also aim to enhance the EU citizenship education. The carefully chosen courses also give us the opportunity to get an insight into the different educational systems of the target countries, and to exchange experience and good practice with the delegated foreign colleagues that will hopefully lead to further professional cooperation and bilateral or multilateral projects. Our school expects the participants to make the newly gained knowledge and skills available to a great many of audiences. Therefore a plan of dissemination was written, where the schedule of presentations, presentation lessons, publications and workshops is easy to follow. After the course the participants do their Europass Mobility Document. In conclusion, our school claims that the chosen methodological courses will contribute to the development of the level of education, and will motivate other students and colleagues. The courses will also shape and form a kind of openness to europeanness.
