Modifying Eating Attitudes and Actions through Learning
Date du début: 1 nov. 2013,

Unhealthy nutrition habits are an important health problem, being crucial risk factors to develop obesity and Eating Disorders. Healthy eating is particularly important for children and adolescents, because its influence on their wellbeing, growth and development. Dealing with Nutrition Education (NE) in a competent way is a major element of basic education for promoting healthy lifestyle in society. NE not only refers to nutrition literacy, but also to other eating behaviours and habits that should be incorporated to curriculum like how to eat, timetables, planning eating, impulsivity, etc. These NE components are not included in the academic curriculum of “Primary School Education” and “Nutrition and Dietetics”. MEAL will offer a specific training methodology for teachers and nutritionists (students and professionals) to acquire, train, promote and deliver to children basic nutrition education and healthy eating behaviours competencies. Moreover, MEAL will offer a tool to facilitate the teaching of nutritional strategies in both schools and nutritional settings. The tool will be based on Contento’s (2008) nutritional educational model, and supported by ICT, allowing a “Learning by doing” perspective where users not only learn specific knowledge but also train skills and learn competencies, determinants to move from knowledge into action. MEAL will contain a web tool for students and professionals, and a Serious Game for children to apply the principles learned at school or nutritional settings. After the user need analysis and the technological development, validation trials in Austria, Norway, Italy and Spain will be carried out with different user groups (students, professionals and children). MEAL products will be translated into English, Italian, German, Norwegian and Spanish. It is expected that MEAL will promote innovative quality nutritional formative programs based on healthy eating behaviours for professionals (teachers and nutritionists) and students.
