The Project "Implementation of new English-language-teaching methods with regard to students' contemporary needs and the development of the European society" of the grammar school Gymnazium Jiriho z Podebrad, Podebrady, proceeds from the needs of the school and is in accordance with the plan of its long-term development. It aims at the internationalization of our school and modernization of teaching, namely the English language in the current European context. We need to exchange experience and knowledge with teachers and head teachers of other European schools, to implement new teaching methods and to improve the quality of school development and school management at our school.We wish to innovate teaching according to new trends and needs of the society, to introduce those activities and means which will motivate our students and enable them to acquire skills necessary in the present-day European society. We will also increase their all-European cultural awareness.Five participants will be involved in the project: the head teacher and four qualified teachers of English (including the project coordinator), all personally and professionally ready to participate in the project and mobilities.We have chosen the following mobilities: 1) A one-week course for head teachers in Spain on the improvement of educational process and school management with emphasis (apart from other things) on information about teaching English at European schools; 2) Four two-week methodology courses for teachers of English in Great Britain. Each course is specialized differently: a) New trends and methods in teaching, using modern technologies in teaching English; b) Emphasis on oral fluency, presentation skills, discussion and argumentation; c) Creativity in the classroom; d) Preparation for international exams in English, especially Cambridge exams.Immediate outcomes of the project will be innovated curricula for English. Each participant will elaborate 7 lesson plans according to the specialization of their course along with more general suggestions and applications. The outcomes will be presented and accessible to other teachers of our school and will be incorporated into English lessons at our school. We will also share experience and outcomes of the project with teachers of other schools in our region. Information will be presented in lectures to teachers of our school as well as of other schools, then on the web page of our school and in the local press. New methods and experience will be used in lessons by teachers of English as well as of other subjects. The project will strongly influence pupils as it will increase their motivation to study English, their active involvement in lessons and their language competence.In the long term, this project will enhance the quality of teaching English along with other subjects at our school. It will also have a positive impact on the atmosphere in our school and raise awareness of international cooperation. It will inspire, as we are convinced, other interesting projects to follow, e.g. within KA2.
