Moderné vyučovanie na Gymnáziu v Gelnici
Date du début: 1 juin 2015, Date de fin: 31 mai 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

We are two teachers of English at grammar school in Gelnica: PaedDr. Daniela Molnárová and Mgr. Erika Krivjanska. As our aim is to prepare our students for the school leaving exams, for our job we need good knowledge of English and methodology as well. We live in an area with a big unemployment rate, our region is nicknamed as The Valley of Hunger, which means that social life is very poor here and teachers working in the area have little chance to communicate in a foreign language and improve in it as the capital city is very far from here. Therefore, attending the Methodology courses in England is a great chance to get knowledge about the latest modern methods, meet other colleagues from larger schools and exchange precious experience and knowledge and improve our English in real communication. The chosen courses will fulfil our expectations because modern methodology is extremely important in nowadays teaching of teenagers and is often overlooked. The courses will widen our range of teaching options and promote our own warming up activities. We also want to expand our levels of knowledge and confidence. Our professional development will improve pupils´ motivations and raise their achievement, students will appreciate new creative and relaxing activities and overcome learning barriers and use their multiple intelligences. The training will develop intercultural dialogue. We can make new contacts with many English teachers from Europe and co-operate with them through sharing and changing new ideas and experience to each other. There will be people from different countries, so we can learn about difficulties they have when teaching English and so they can give us stimulus for our teaching. The courses are going to be in a country where English is a mother tongue, so communication with native speakers will give us the chance to improve all the verbal and non – verbal skills and competencies needed for effective teaching. We will also be encouraged to re-assess our 'teacher beliefs and attitudes' in the light of current trends in methodology. We believe that my participation will surely contribute to give a European dimension to our school – bringing new ideas, theories, styles and approaches for teaching and learning. We will learn many unusual strategies, which can help us teach pupils more effectively, and which will help us create a positive classroom atmosphere. We are surely convinced that the courses will provide us with a wide range of exciting new approaches to teaching and learning grammar and spoken language. Seminars and workshops in our country last usually several hours and are not as effective as courses in English speaking countries because although they are coached by experienced teachers, they are mostly from Slovakia, so we do not have a chance to interact with trainers and tutors from English speaking countries. We can make new contacts with many English teachers from Europe and co-operate with them through sharing and changing new ideas and experiences to one another and possibly try to make a mutual project. We plan to provide feedback about the visited course in a school magazine and on the web of our school and publish a brochure with activities for the needs of the teachers.
