Project „Student’s vocational mobility as a path to success in tourist industry” prepared by the Zespól Szkół Nr 2 -sending organization was addressed to vocational training school students in third class being trained in the following vocations: hotel service technician, tourist service technician and technician of the use of ports and terminals. 52 students and 5 teachers were going to take part in this project. The students were going to participate in a 4 weeks-long vocational training placements in transport companies and hotels. We had divided 52 students into two groups. The first group’s placement took place in May 2015 (16 students accompanied by 2 tutors went to Seville and 10 students with 1 tutor went to Granada in Spain), and the second group’s placement took place in May 2016 (26 students accompanied by 2 tutors). In regard to the needs of our students that we had identified and the established objectives, we had decided that a placement in real work environment was the best way to gain professional competence required on the European labour market. The main objective of this project was the best possible preparation for entering the union labour market in the transport and hotel industry as well as broadening the European dimension of vocational education. The main objective had been achieved through the execution of the detailed aims: 1. The general vocational objectives - acquiring skills in comprehensive guests/customer service, - extending theoretical knowledge obtained by the students during school courses by practical training, - learning team work skills, - forming an intercultural dialog based on understanding, respect and tolerance for other cultures present in the workplace and everyday life, - forming an attitude of recognition and acceptance towards diversity in the work place, 2. Vocational objectives - introduction to work standards in European enterprises, - learning guests/customer service procedures, - acquiring skills required in given work posts, 3. Linguistic objectives - enhancing the foreign language vocabulary range, especially in the field of vocational language, - improving language skills (speaking, writing and reading comprehension in English and learning same basics of Spanish), - breaking the language barrier and gaining ease of communication, 4. Other objectives - acquaintance with professional documentation and computer programs, - gaining mobility, - reducing inequality of opportunities for acquiring practical skills on European labour markets for young people from rural areas and small villages and for students with special difficulties with learning (young people from such communities shall account for a large part of the project’s participants). The project responded to the need for increasing educational and vocational mobility of young people to the EU countries, supported their social and vocational activity, promoted learning the foreign language as an important part of the vocational training process. Implementation of the project was also going to increase the students’ chances of finding employment after finishing their education as well as improve their mobility in the field of job searching. Students took part in vocational training placements in hotels, catering, transport, whorehouses industry companies as well as in Spanish lessons, cultural courses (they visited Andaluz). The project was a response to their needs for improving and widening professional competence and breaking the language barrier. The project also responded to the needs of a vocational training school, whose priority is train students by acquiring skills and experience. Participation in the project also brougth great benefits to the development of the education process in our school. During their stay abroad, the participants visited the most interesting sites in the host region in their free time (palace of Alhambra, districts Albayzin and Sacromonte in Granada, moscue in Cordoba, cathedral in Seville which are on world list of UNESCO, Cadiz, beaches at Atlantic Ocean and others). The cultural programme had been run by the accompanying school teachers in cooperation with the project partners outside the students’ working time and also during their preparation lesson in our school. Due to observation, summary of evaluating formula and our communicate with participants, we have a knowledge that thanks to this placement they are more enthusiastic to apply for more interesting jobs” offers in Poland and even abroad. They are more self-confidence and more experienced in private and vocational life. Besides they had better scores in their vocational exams (qualification T 11 , T 12, T 14; all students from placement in 2015 r. had passed their exams, in 2016 - 85 % students with qualification T 11 had passed (2 persons had not pass that exam), rest of them will pass their exams in January 2017).
