Mobility Project

Greenhills College is a College of Further Education located in Dublin 12 which forms part of the DDLETB (Dublin Dun Laoghaire Education and Training Board). Since 1991, the College has built a strong tradition in delivering quality Adult Education VET courses at QQI Levels 5 and 6. In the present academic year there is an enrolment of approximately 400 students at the College. The courses on offer at Greenhills College cover a diverse array of disciplines including Art, Business, Childcare, Engineering, Healthcare, Information Technology, Nursing Studies and Sports. The content of each course strives to reflect the needs, aptitudes and career path demands of a rapidly expanding and diverse society. The students are required to complete a work placement as part of their courses. They do not receive a full award unless this has been completed. By participating in the Erasmus+ Mobility programme the students have the opportunity to complete their work experience in an European country. As a result the students will be provided with an international learning platform for which will further their education and enhance their employability prospects. They will gain experience of cultural diversity and exposure to innovative work practices. Being able to undertake in this placement in a different European country will give students a broader outlook and an experience which will enrich their learning. Management competences within the College will improve by participation in this project, which it is hoped will be the start of a broader European link in the years ahead. This will be of huge benefit to teachers and staff in an era where involvement in Europe is key to our country. This project will become part of our Self Evaluation and Programme Improvement process, whereby we annually seek to improve the teaching and learning experiences of our teachers and students. There will be 4 student participating in the project over a period of twenty four months, they will be completing the “Business through Computer” and “Information Technology” courses. The profile of our students are within the age group 18 – 60 years from different educationally, socio-economic and culture backgrounds. This experience will be invaluable for the participants to obtain employment in the future. The objectives of the project is to enable students to complete their work placement – a compulsory element of their course in order to achieve a full award – in a European country. This will fulfil the course requirements and their experience will be enhanced by being able to complete it abroad. This project will provide an international learning platform for our participients which will further their education and enhance their employability prospects. They will gain experience of cultural diversity and exposure to innovative work practices. The objective for Greenhills' College is the project will become part of our Self Evaluation and Programme Improvement process, whereby we annually seek to improve the teaching and learning experiences of our teachers and students. The planned activity for the project is to help the selected partner "Gamegroothandel" who are a wholeseller in videogame-related accessores and merchandise located in The Netherlands where 75 percent of customers are foreign customers, 25 percent are Dutch customers, set up an on-line sales channel using the Amazon platform. The students will also learn what is involved in the administration and running of a Game Wholesaler business. Greenhills' College and Gamegroothandel will co-operate and communicate by regular emails and calls via skype or facetime and all other stakeholders. The participants will be supervised daily by the business owner, the project objectives will be outlined before project commencement, the project tasks will be identified with a time scale for completion. The business owner will monitor the tasks by regular communication with the participants. He will ensure that any issues that arise and are unable to be resolved by the participants are escalated to management. The result of the project will be the students will gain knowledge of business in an international environment and they will attain intercultural skills. They will learn to become self-reliant as a result of living in another country. They will build networks of international contacts and as a result develop a sense of European citizenship and identity. The project will enable students and staff to benefit linguistically, culturally and educationally from the experience of pursuing work placement in another country. The programme will contribute to providing good students from varied backgrounds with further education and professional development — thus contributing to disseminate EU social and democratic values.
