Mobility for Marine Careers
Date du début: 1 sept. 2016, Date de fin: 31 août 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Both Cornwall and Finistere are among their regional leaders nationally for the marine leisure sector and sharing training expertise between those two regions would support consolidating their place at the front-end of the industry. In an increasingly internationalised marine leisure market, the workforce future has to acquire additional skills and competences to be capable of adapting its services to a new clientele. Different products and processes are available in mainland Europe and the boat builders and marine engineers of the future need to be able to use them. As such, the project will aim at increasing the skills and knowledge of the learners by offering them the opportunity to test new working methods as well as discover different products and processes in high quality boatyards in the Finistere area (Brittany, France). These two-week placements in businesses would provide 12 VET learners from Cornwall (6 full-time, 6 apprentices) with this opportunity. The project will aim to : - support learners in the acquisition of additional learning outcomes (in terms of knowledge, skills and competences) with a view to improving their personal development and their employability in the European labour market and beyond. In particular, they will be able to acquire new skills related to products and processes that are widespread in France but not necessarily present the UK and in the local training offer. This will enhance their skills levels as well as support their potential mobility on the European labour market in the future.- support the professional development of the trainers with a view to improving the quality of teaching by including the products and processes in the local training provision. The accompanying staff, further to simply monitor the delivery of the placement will also report on the skills, technics and processes used by French businesses with the view of adding them to the local training provision. - reinforce synergies and transitions between vocational training and employment through the experience of a hands-on work placement in top-class businesses; - enhance the participants' foreign languages competence by offering the learners a complete immersion in a French-speaking business.- raise participants' awareness and understanding of other cultures and countries, offering them the opportunity to build networks of international contacts, to actively participate in society and develop a sense of European citizenship and identity. This will particularly be supported by the activities, outside working hours, when the learners will be able to learn more about the local culture and the shared cultural and maritime heritage between Cornwall and Brittany.- increase the capacities, attractiveness and international dimension of the Cornwall Apprenticeship Agency and Nautisme en Finistere so that they able to offer further activities and programmes in Europe and beyond after the project. Although this project constitutes a “pilot activity” for both organisations, it is expected to be a stepping stone to future collaborations in this area.
