Mobility for Employability and Entrepreneurship in Tourism- Mobilità per l'occupazione e l'imprenditorialità nel settore turistico

In Italy, despite economic ad unemployment crisis, young people are still interested in tourism and hospitality field, and the number of students in this sector is continuously increasing: young people believe that this economic field could still offer employment and careers perspectives. However , researches show that there is a skills mismatch between school education and the skills required by labour market. In addition to that, young unemployment rate in Italy is at 40%; school education is not able, by itself, to guarantee employability of motivated and hopeful young students. General objective of MEET project is to increase employability of participants, and specific objectives are: 1- Acquire vocational experience at a real work place; 2- Acquire knowledge about business planning and entrepreneurship; 3- Improvement of language knowledge and openness to a foreign culture. Participants are 50 young students of the fourth classes of five Vocational Schools in the field of Ospitality and Tourism, situated in the south of Italy (Campania, Sicilia and Abruzzo). These Regions are characterized by an high rate of young unemployment, and they need to improve the using of their many tourist and cultural resources. At Siville, in Spain, the students involved have carried out two kind of work experience, according to their educational experiences and personal interests: 1- work experience in the field of cooking and room services, in order to learn how to prepare traditional and typical products; 2- work esperience in tourism services, in order to learn how to manage relations with customers, especially in a foreign language. In addition to work experience, as preparatory activity, student have attended a course about entrepreneurship, in order to introduce them to business planning and business management, according to regional, national and European policies that are promoting entrepreneurship and self-employability as instrument to overcoming unemployment and economic crisis. At the end of mobility, students are able to manage with real work situations, reacting to stressful events, relating with customers, developing entrepreneurial projects. In the long term, the objective of the project is to increase employability of participants, but also to introduce other relevant stakeholders- such as local schools- to this kind of mobility opportunities, and to support local authorities in the field of VET in adapting their educational programmes to the requests of labour market. Finally, in order to maximize the impact over participants, the project ensured evaluation, validation and recognition of learning outcomes using tools and methodology of the ECVET system.
