Mobilita - najlepší krok za európskym pracovným úspechom

By the project named “”Mobility – the Best Step Towards Successful European Career” we have addressed one of the most acute issues of the European Union of today, the youth unemployment. Since the professional skills together with foreign language and computer skills and competences have become critical in terms of getting and keeping a job, by our project we wanted to focus on improvement of the above competencies and thus make our students’ entrance to the European labour market easier.28 students of the 3rd and 4th grades of the Secondary Technical and Art School of Samuel Mikovíni, who study paper and old book bindings restoration, graphic design, biotechnology, pharmacology, environment and geodesy and 2 teachers of specialized subjects – took part in the project in three countries of the European Union – Germany, Spain and the UK. This project enabled our students to see, observe and experience the world of the advanced Europe with its modern technologies, processing procedures, use of materials and machinery operation at their workplace.
The project took 16 days-7 working hours a day. Particular training outcomes were defined for every employer and also worked out for every participant of students mobilities as a part of ECVET documentation.
In Germany students did their work experience in the German Stadtbibliothek in Leipzig. They worked on the damaged old prints, glued damaged pages by Japanese tissue, dyed paper and documents, repaired surface of book bindings, they worked on the repair of book covers made of different materials, such as leather, wood and paperboard. They chemically cleaned paper bindings of different types of dirt. They could see a work of an expert, dealing with papyrus conservation, the only one in Europe, whose workshop is in the University library in Leipzig. They also visited a golden safe, where the world-known prints are preserved.
In Spain students of biotechnology worked in specialized certification providing laboratories, where they did analysis of cosmetic and food products.
One student of environment protection worked in German ecological company Okolowen – which owns the park with protected tree and plant species. They prepared and organised specialised activities for children focused on the environment protection awareness for children of elementary schools and kindergartens in Leipzig.
Students of graphic design worked in Spanish graphic company, which dealt with printing, designing and installation of billboards as well as website designing. They worked with software such as COREL, Photoshop, 3D Max which contributed to development of new specialised competencies of our students.
For students of the commercial graphic our partner organisation found an employment in graphic companies, where the billboards of larger dimension were designed and they also produced different smaller commercial objects, such as calendars and different interior prints. They also designed walls in different halls while using computer design of texts, fonts and print and also dealt with websites design of companies, institutions and their redesigning and innovation. Foreign work experience allowed our graduates to improve communication in a foreign language, which contributed to achieving greater success in the national scale school-leaving examination. Students also acquired knowledge about life and culture in both countries.
As for the evaluation, transfer and validation of acquired skills and competences, our school applied the method ECVET this year for the first time. We consider it very useful because of the detailed description of acquired skills and competencies of participants in mobility. Students obtained ECVET Learning Agreement, which has defined the expected learning outcomes: knowledge, skills and abilities that students should acquire during the work placement abroad. This document precisely defined the units of education that were supposed to be developed during the work placement and a method of evaluation of results / outcomes. Regarding the evaluation form - Personal Appraisal Form - we have agreed with our partners on the grades -5 as a common evaluation scale used in Germany and Spain. After finishing the work experience abroad students were given certificate Europass mobility and certificates of the receiving partner as well as the certificate of the sending organisation. Presenting the results of the project was aimed at several target groups e.g. elementary school pupils, secondary schools students, foreign language teachers, specialists, experts and future project implementers.Participants of the mobility in the field of old books restoration presented what they learnt abroad at a workshops held in collaboration with the Pardubice University in the Czech Republic and Restoration Chamber of Old Books and Prints in Slovakia that our school regularly participates in.
