Background Dalaskolan is in a process of change. The number of students increases, which requires a major change in the school's internal organization, both in terms of how the school premises shall be used and how groups of students and staff will be organized. The fact that the school expands is positive, but means we have to deal with major challenges, which requires consensus and cooperation. Simultaneous we have begun to replace the school's old computers to iPads, a shift that we require consensus, education and inspiration. The school's catchment area is socio-economically and culturally homogeneous. The school has over the years had a few, occasional international contacts as an eTwinning project some years ago and now a couple of budding contacts from the ongoing project. Catchment area homogeneity means that we have few opportunities to work with internationalization and diversity in a natural context. In recent years have extensive training sessions been conducted for the subjects Swedish and Mathematics, while it is considerably more difficult to find training in social studies. We also have a need for continuing education for sustainable development to round out our skills in conjunction with the school's environmental diploma. Objectives of the project The overall objective of the project is that the teachers will get the inspiration and training they need to meet the school´s challanges. This by participating in week-long courses dealing with how to use mobile digital tools and resoursces in social studies and sustainable development along with their peers and colleagues from Europe. More specifically, we want to achieve: Better cooperation Increased internationalization Increased competence - ICT, Social Studies, sustainable development Participants Dalaskolan has 43 teachers, some of them new recruits. In this project, we put together groups from different categories of personnel who will participate in the same course. We consider it important for the staff to get to know each other and share experiences and knowledge. Course teams are put together based on participants' wishes but also with this in mind. 20 teachers are participating, half of the school staff. Course Activities We choose the courses that we know most meets our needs for training in how to use mobile, digital tools. We choose other course locations and one of the new courses organized, a course which we expect will give our environmental efforts a boost. The choice of courses is thus made entirely according to what the teachers and the school require. The courses we apply for are Digital Extras (eLearning for use in schools and museums), Sharing Landscapes (using tablets for Teaching outside the classroom) and Eduglocal (Think Global - Act Local - Learn Glo-cal!). The courses also meets our requirements for internationalization. Method Throug the ongoing project, we have gained a wealth of experience and established means to implement a major EU project. This experience will facilitate future projects considerably. The school's principal, quality developer and administrator will have primary responsibility for coordinating the project and the practical arrangements. The district's EU coordinator assists, when necessary. Those who participate in the ongoing courses will be a great resource when it comes to preparing for and processing the coming cources. We will use the resources available in the district for booking journeys and handling of the economy. Expected Outcomes By giving the entire college the same opportunities to the experiences and knowledge the courses will provide (the use of mobile digital tools, Web resources and apps, subject knowledge for teaching in Social Studies and Sustainable Development, etc.), we expect the project to give all staff a common understanding and foundation. Participants will gain practical techniques and ideas that can be directly used at home as well as new contacts and an understanding of how to work in other countries. This allows us to develop our teaching methods and can make students more involved in learning. In the long term, this should lead to greater effectiveness and internationalization at a school located in a homogeneous area.
