The purpose of the project is the work of the committees on the topic of youth participation in the democratic life on the local and EU level. We will form two committees for each level, local and EU. Each committee will be composed of 15 young participants, making together 30 participants. The purpose of these committees will be to work with decision-makers and assist them in the preparation of decisions that would affect the greater participation of young people in democratic life and to create their own initiatives in the form of petitions. Decision-makers need to engage with the public, so their decisions have greater credibility and legitimacy. The formed Committee for EU level will have contact with the newly elected Slovenian MEPs. In case they will not begin their work, we will connect with the European Parliament Information Office in Slovenia, with whom we already cooperate on a daily basis. Young people will be encouraged to submit a petition to the European Parliament. Any citizen of the European Union may, individually or in association with others, submit a petition to the European Parliament on a subject which comes within the European Union's fields of activity and which affects them directly. The filed petitions will be a tangible result of their work and a clear reflection of their willingness for change. A similar idea will be pursued by the Committee for the local level, however the petition will be addressed to the National Assembly. The right to petition is one of the fundamental human rights and political freedoms of the citizens of the Republic of Slovenia, which is regulated in Article 45 of the Constitution. The Committee will have contact with the Office of Culture and Youth of the Municipality of Maribor as the public body that prepares the material concerning youth for the Municipality of Maribor. The ideas of our young participants fot the petitions remain open and vague, as it will be up to them to decide where they see the need for action to ensure that their peers have a better chance of democratic life and inclusion.
