Тhe project was initiated in response to the local needs of the municipality Zlatograd and Smolyan region of better quality tourism offering and in this context - the need to increase the practical skills and competencies of young professionals studying at the Vocational School “Hristo Botev” in tourism majors, getting them familiar with the European standards in service, improving their language skills, skills to communicate with the guests, their skills to explore the tastes and desires of tourists in order to offer competitive tourist products and better quality tourist services. In this context, the objectives that the project team succeeded to achieve during the project are: 1) To build on basic skills and competencies of 20 students from Vocational School “Hristo Botev” by expanding their knowledge of European standards in tourism and practical skills to communicate with the guests, to study the attitudes, interests and desires of tourists, for promoting the tourist sites and tourist destination. 2) To improve the language skills of the users of VS “Hristo Botev” by the opportunity to learn a new foreign language (Spanish) and acquire language level A2 in that language; 3) To give students knowledge of working in a multicultural environment, ability to work with people of different nationalities and sense of respect to cultural diversity, which is essential for their development as professionals in tourism; 4) To expand the international activities of the school and the capacity of its team for organizing quality international practices implementing European tools for transparency and recognition of learning outcomes. Beneficiaries of the project were 20 students aged 15-20 years from VS “Hristo Botev” in the stage of initial vocational education in specialty “Travel, tourism and leisure”, major “Administrator in hospitality” and major “Organizer of tourist agency”, as well as specialty “Production and catering services”, major “Restaurateur”. Mobility will be carried out in Barcelona, Spain and has a duration of 4 weeks (from 30/06/2015 to 28/07/2015). The work program encompassed visits to various tourist sites, surveys with tourists, practical exercises to communicate with guests from different nationalities, practical training in presenting local tourist potential. Through the encompassed into the practice topics and professional competences users upgraded their professional preparation in school, obtaining additional knowledge and skills in the following areas: - Knowledge of the european standards in tourist services; - Knowledge of the tourist communication etiquette; - Communication skills of everyday life in restaurants and hotels in Spanish language; - Ability to compile questionnaires to study the attitudes, interests and desires of tourists through the methods of the survey; - Skills to survey foreign visitors; - Skills to present a tourist destination. Furthermore users’ language skills in Spanish were approved. During the practice, participants fell into different culture, got known of spanish traditions and customs, which contributed to development of their intercultural skills, social skills, self-confidence as European citizens. After the practice, users received a certificate by the receiving partner Global Skills network, Europass mobility document and Certificate for passed practice in real environment by the Vocational School “Hristo Botev”. Mobility contributed to the learning of best practices in the fields of communicating with international tourists, service and the overall care of guests from theiir entry into hotel / restaurant to leaving, skills for resolving conflicts and disputes, presentation skills and promotion of local tourism resources. These skills are a valuable resource for the municipality of Zlatograd, which is developing as a tourist destination. Looking ahead, it is expected young participants to bring new skills and best practices in future jobs, which will contribute to improving the level of service and attract more tourists.
