Date du début: 1 août 2014, Date de fin: 31 mai 2015 PROJET  TERMINÉ

In the context of 2014 International Year of Family Farming, an initiative of the United Nations (UN), project “Youth volunteers in Family Farming - united for a world free of poverty and hunger” aims at repositioning family farming in the center of agriculture and social policies of the national agencies by opening "holes”, and opportunities for promoting more equal, and balanced development among young people outside the big cities, directly or indirectly involved in agricultural production. Local production and consumption circuits based on family farming have a major part to play in fighting hunger especially when linked to social protection policies that address the needs of vulnerable people. Family farmers are embedded in territorial networks and local cultures, and spend their incomes mostly within local and regional markets, generating many agricultural and non-agricultural jobs. This year is an unprecedented opportunity for institutions engaged in farming, young volunteers, NGOs and others, to engage the public in a conversation about the vital role that smallholders play in our daily lives. The activities will be carried out in Kustendil (it is called “The Orchard of Bulgaria”), Bulgaria. The area is one of the most fertile parts of Bulgaria, very rich in orchards, vegetable plantations and etc., which directly corresponds to the idea of the project. The project will involve 30 participants from five countries (Bulgaria, Italy, Romania, Turkey and Georgia). The main activities of the project are as follows:  Thematic presentations of the teams with an opportunity for questions from the audience and discussion;  Collecting empirical data from several orchards and vegetable gardens;  Exchange of good practices (terrain experienced research) and opportunities for sustainable family farming;  Workshop in family farming and the problems, which should be solved (Facilitating access to land, water and other natural resources and implementing specific public policies for family farmers (credit, technical assistance, insurance, market access, public purchases, appropriate technologies)  Round table - allowing discussion and reflection on the following topics: 1. Establishing a platform for public dialogue with family farmer’s organizations; 2. Establishment and implementation of effective policies for young family farmers; 3. Family farm - an important part of the solution to a world free from poverty and hunger; 4. Creating a strategic framework for sustainable family farms and their capacity. The main target group of the project are 30 young people (up to 29), who are influenced by the topic of the project. The secondary target group is young people interested in the topic, who will be included in the survey on key issues and opportunities, and the ways to solve and promote them in the countries participating in the project. And those who will be introduced to the online manual of good practices and opportunities for development and creation of international associations. Thus cause greater public dialogue between stakeholders and government, which can lead to concrete and sustainable solutions. The project will have a direct impact on those involved in the project activities, as well as indirect effects on the secondary target group that will benefit from the multiplier effect of the results. The following impacts on the young people are expected through the active participation in the implementation of the project: expanding knowledge about other countries, their cultures and their ways work; acquisition of complex knowledge and skills on ways of working and approaching in the participating countries; increasing tolerance and desire for intercultural dialogue; experience in organization and execution of projects and etc. After implementation of the work program participants will be involved in research, which will contribute to the further dialogue between the organizations and the participants themselves. This will help in building a strong cooperation that generate prospects for new projects.
