The International School of Stuttgart, Sindelfingen Campus is a school with an international clientele. It has extensive experience with work on a national and European level, but has never participated in a European project up to now. The school is now orientated more in a European direction and is currently asking itself how it can attain a more European orientation. The first step should be through a goal-orientated training of teachers, either through European Professional Development or through job-shadowing in European schools. In these European schools they should develop international contacts, learn how to use ICT in subject teaching and come to know about new methods as well as innovative curricula. This will help the participants to engage in the planning and management of international and European projects, to reflect upon and optimize their teaching up to now and to disseminate the knowledge and skills they develop through their participation, to their colleagues. No partners have been definitely named for the training measures. From the point of view of our school, we should firstly identify the quite specific needs regarding the quality of work and the faculty and then, with the help of the Erasmus data bank, and with long-term educational partners of the school, find appropriate and relevant courses. For the job-shadowing we have chosen countries that seem to us to be interesting from the point of view of their specialities and innovations (for example, use of ICT in learning, learning through a dual-language approach and team-teaching methods) and which, with the help of the national agencies and some contacts, we are certain will be appropriate project partners.
The partners will be sought, or can apply, from specific subject areas. In order to ensure that by communicating the knowledge gained, more colleagues will profit from, improve and disseminate school-wide initiatives, each participant should present on the knowledge and skills they gain. During their visit abroad, the participants will write a blog, in which they will document their daily experiences, as well as a communication with colleagues in the place they visit and those at home (posting and commenting).
Long-term, this European professional development should lead to motivation as much for the visiting teachers as well as for the participants of the courses.
European projects bring great gains for the school, as mobility measures are much more personal and effective than usual and national trainings. All in all, through this project the school wishes to optimise its teachers' professional development, make the teaching more inter-cultural and more digital and develop new school measures that will be for the benefit of all teachers in the schools.
The training results should dovetail into the planning for step 2, in which we will strive towards a multinational and a regional partnership in Key Action 2. In our work on innovative curricular, the findings and experiences of the colleagues will be included.
