Migration policy challenges in the EU and the South Caucasus

Today EU and non-EU states face real challenges due to increasing influx of migrants and refugees seeking for asylum. This process causes serious cultural, social, economic and political implications in each country despite its economic and political strengths and development level. In 2015 more than million migrants and refugees crossed European Union's borders; the Republic of Armenia has also opened its borders to around of 22000 Syrian Armenians which supposed implementation of certain actions on behalf of the State despite tough political and economic situation existing in the country. The proposed Module on “Migration policy challenges in the EU and the South Caucasus” is designed to address legal, political, cultural and social aspects of migration in the region and the European Union. It will be compulsory part of the MA in European Studies curriculum; additionally it will be suggested as optional course for international relations, law and sociology students. A module on migration will be taught for the first time in the frames of the MA in European Studies. The module is result of interdepartmental cooperation of YSU’s departments. It is structured as multidisciplinary in its structure and essence; it is divided into three parts where each course is designed or modified to meet general objective of the module and the curriculum, syllabus structure, identification of learning outcomes, etc.:- Course 1. Multiculturalism, identity and values (course was modified on the bases of “Introduction to European integration. Cultural perspective”/ team teaching)- Course 2. Legal regulation of the migration processes and asylum issues in the EU and the RA (new course)- Course 3.
