Migration, Intercultural Dialogue and Integration in Europe, Demonstrated in the play "The Tempest" by William Shakespeare, embedded in activities of theatrical pedagogics.
Date du début: 1 mai 2010,

On the background of very important migration phenomena in the last years and of profound changes in European societies, theatre has to adapt to the new challenge of fast changing multicultural and multilingual societies, which bear opportunities and risks at the same time. The overall long term objectives of the MIDIE project are to stimulate intercultural dialogue between immigrants and native population and to raise the interest in the exchange with for-eign cultures as well as to promote the participation of immigrants in cultural life and thus contribute to integration.Short term objectives are: Mainstreaming intercultural and multilingual issues in theatre prac-tice both, on the artistic level and in the field of cooperation with relevant stakeholders; En-hance cultural participation of migrant communities through theatre activities:The adaptation of Shakespeare's THE TEMPEST to contemporary questions of migration and intercultural exchange by a common production of the three theatres is the core of the project. The content: Prospero, the duke of Milan is overthrown and flees to the sea. He finds an is-land which he subdues and where he tries to civilise "the wild". As if by making use of magical powers the duke causes the Milanese court with his opponent to likewise strand on the island. Here he tries to confront them with his newly gained forced exile by applying his own stan-dards. The island is transformed through the new staging of THE TEMPEST into a both, his-torical and contemporary refuge for migrants of all nations. In the meantime, the play ad-dresses all the inflammable social and political problems of the creation of a new cultural world order, while not forgetting to launch precise allusions to the perpetually acute debate about the dramas of refugees. The play will be accompanied by multi-faceted complementary actions in the field of theatri-cal pedagogy. Theatre will be used as a means of artistic and playful contention with cultural diversity
