MIGRATION FLOWS: Challenges and Perspectives under International and EU Law
Date du début: 1 sept. 2016, Date de fin: 31 août 2019 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Greece has been at the forefront of the current unprecedented refugee crisis in Europe with thousands of migrants and refuges crossing its borders every day. Only in 2015 approximately 900,000 persons entered Greece through its maritime boards. Greece is called upon to face this mass influx of irregular migrants in full compliance with the Common European Asylum System and the European Union (EU) legislation on Immigration and the Management of EU External Borders. In addition, international law, including international human rights law and law of the sea, has a significant say to the current state of play. Hence, the training of practitioners involved in the everyday management of migratory flows as well as the organization of courses providing an advanced understanding of the main theoretical and policy debates within this field becomes imperative. The proposed Action will include the following activities:a)Summer School to be delivered on annual basis. It will serve to disseminate a strong grounding in the protection of refugees and migrants and in the management of refugee flows under international and EU law among lawyers, policy-makers, NGO workers, international agency staff, postgraduate students, and others working with refugees and migrants or interested in refugee issues. It will be delivered to participants by leading academic experts, primarily members and fellows of the AthensPIL Centre and practitioners in international refugee and migration law and is organised as an intensive five day programme, which will include seminars and targeted tutorials.b)Short Intensive Courses (12 sessions) that will run on annual basis is aimed exclusively at lawyers, policy-makers, NGO workers, international agency staff and others working in the field of international and EU migration and refugee law.
