The project ”Improving for Growing" has developed as a vital necessity of innovation and internationalisation of Impallomeni Secondary School, as well as from the need of the teaching and non teaching staff of the school to further broaden their experiences through a mobility training abroad in the form of both structured courses and job-shadowing aimed at acquiring and spreading improved professional performance among all the staff, the students and the stakeholders.The objectives of such training are to improve:− organisational competences of teaching and non-teaching staff, through a constructive comparison with other educational systems;− foreign language competences for the future CLIL teachers and for the non-teaching staff;− methodological, didactic and organisational competences of all teachers, with particular regard to the development of new methodologies and to the use of new technologies.The teaching and non teaching staff of our school has first been informed about the opportunities of training mobility activities abroad; among those who have shown particular interest, ten members of the teaching staff, four members of the non-teaching staff and three key figures in the school management will be selected. They will come from different backgrounds and will include administrative and technical staff, as well as teachers of Italian, Classical Languages, History, Philosophy, Foreign Language, Maths, Science, Art, PE and Special Need Teachers.The mobility activities will mainly consist in courses aimed to achieve language certifications in the U.K. since the major demands of the staff in our school derive from the need to improve their competence in English. The members of the administrative and technical staff, particularly, feel the need to improve their language skills in English: the former in order to allow the school to take part in transnational projects, with a view to the internationalisation of the educational system; the latter to better cooperate with teachers in using and developing educational software and ICT tools. The teachers who already have the necessary language competences will be offered the opportunity to attend specific training on CLIL methodology. Finally, the school manager, together with three key staff members , will be involved in a job-shadowing activity in the Spanish partner school which will allow them to learn about other educational systems, with the aim to internationalise and enhance the quality of the educational systems.Communication between project partners will be mainly carried out by means of emails, telephone calls and other messaging systems, e-learning platforms and similar multimedia technology such as skype, ooVoo and the TwinSpace supplied by the eTwinning platform, where it will be possible to develop a project aimed to allow the participants in the job-shadowing activity to get familiar with a multilingual and cross-curricular learning environment, to get to know the staff of the partner school, to get information about the programme and the location of the school and to discuss and agree on the activities to be carried out.The final recipients of the training programme, who are not only the students of the schools involved in the project but also the entire school community at local, regional, national and European level, will benefit from an educational offer which will be wider, diverse and adapted to the demands of the modern world in terms of language, communicative, intercultural and operative competences. The medium to long-term impact of the project will be given by the enhancement of the global educational offer and of planning skills both of the schools involved in the project and of those who will be reached by the dissemination action. We also expect an emulating effect in other educational institutions which will lead to developing and sharing best practices. The impact our project will have on experts and decision-makers in the educational field will have a positive influence on national educational systems and on the harmonisation of European school systems. Finally the media and the public opinion will be generally more sensitive to educational issues and more aware of the opportunities offered by European programmes.
