METEORISK - Mitigation of natural risks through improved forecasting of extreme meteorological events (METEORISK)
Date du début: 30 juin 2001, Date de fin: 29 juin 2006 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Extreme meteorological events originate in one part of the Alps and proceed over or along the alpine crest. The effects of these events are inundations, landslides, avalanches, Föhn storms etc., which do not occur outside of the Alps in this form. The forecasting of these events is limited by the lack of structured communication between the weather services in these areas and the lack of online available data before and during these events. The object of METEORISK is: 1- to establish a network of online automatic meteorological stations densifying the existing station network. 2 - The improved interpretation of different regional models and radar data of the area. 3 - Optimized communication, common training and networking between the forecasters. 4 - The improvement of the interaction with the the civil protection authorities and the public through adequate instruction material. 5 - A statistical analysis to quantify the occurence of extreme events in the different part of the Alps.
