MentorPower: Empowerment and Social Integration of Migrant Youth via Integration into Labor Market Using Engagement Mentoring

WHAT IS MENTORPOWER MentorPower is a strategic partnership project for the empowerment and social integration of migrant youth by facilitating their integration into the labor market using engagement mentoring. The partnership will bring together civil society organizations in Europe working in the field of youth for developing and piloting of an innovative and sustainable engagement mentoring model for 16-25 year-old migrant youth within a period of two years. PARTNERS TO THE PROJECT: The project brings 5 organisations from 5 different countries. The applicant organization, Pistes Solidaires Méditerranée (Marseille, France), possesses considerable experience in management of international projects, as well as experience in working with disadvantaged youth and immigrants. Kvalifiseringstjenesten (Grimstad, Norway) possesses extensive experience in giving trainings to immigrants in their city, as well as implementing mentoring programs with immigrant youth. Center for Education (Mallorca, Spain) possesses experience in working with NEET youth. Toplum Gönüllüleri (Istanbul, Turkey) possesses a very large network of volunteers all around the country working with youth of various different socioeconomic backgrounds. Koinoniki Anaptyksi Neon (Kalamata, Greece) possesses significant experience in implementing non-formal trainings to youth, as well as experience in working with immigrant youth. ACTIVITIES AND OUTPUTS: The project activities are built upon the development of three major outputs: (I) A Best Practices Report, which will constitute the basis upon which an engagement mentoring model oriented at migrant youth can be built (in English, electronic and printed copies); (II) a Guidebook for the Integration of Migrant Youth into Society (in 6 languages, electronic and printed copies); (III) Policy Recommendation Booklets for advocacy purposes (5 different sets of booklets, each set consisting of the related partner’s language and the English translation) The project cycle will include: 5 Transnational Project Meetings, 1 training for the establishment of a team of 10 master trainers on implementing engagement mentoring with migrant youth; A total of 5 trainings to 60 mentees in 5 countries; A total of 5 trainings to 60 mentors in 5 countries; 3 short term mobilities for a total of 60 mentors; Biweekly one-on-one mentoring sessions between mentors and mentees for 8 months; 4 reflection meetings for mentors and mentees; 5 trainings to a total of 200 youth workers in 5 countries; 5 advocacy meetings with regional and/or national policy makers; 5 press meetings; 1 report by the external evaluator 1 project report Project logo Project website and intraweb Visibility materials as posters, brochures, flyers RESULTS: - The transversal skills of the migrant youth will be improved, including critical thinking, problem solving, leadership and collaborative learning; they will have received career guidance and advice on the field of their interest; will have connections in the sector of their interest; and ill have improved their ICT skills by communicating and interacting with their mentors and other mentees using online tools; - The participating adults will have gained skills for working with migrant youth, including tutoring and teaching skills, modeling skills, problem solving skills, active and non-judgmental listening skills, and conflict resolution skills; and will have developed a stronger sense of social responsibility and feel further committed to volunteerism - The participant organisations will have developed their capacity on implementing engagement mentoring programs with migrant youth, as well issues such as project implementation, international cooperation, strategic development, and internationalization; - The youth workers will have gained the necessary skills and be introduced to the necessary tools that will enable them to implement the engagement mentoring model proposed in the project; - Public authorities will have an increased understanding of the problems and needs of the migrant youth with regards to integration into the labor market; will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of the model, which will ensure an easier adaptation of the model by the public authorities if they want to implement the model in the future.
