Memory Matters - the Making of Social History

This project will target older isolated people through using the technique of reminiscence work as a method to incorporate the objectives set out in the Life Long Learning programme and will involve a range of contexts, including rural areas, care/residential homes, ethnic minority communities and terminally ill older people. The project will support older people through reminiscence and heritage activity, help participants find a voice in national and international debates about learning and age, assist older people to access lifelong learning opportunities in their national context, and enhance their social integration and community cohesion. The project will involve learners in collecting stories and items from their past to be used in constructing memory boxes and publishing books and a website in the sharing of cultural experiences with younger generations (‘European memory bank’). Partners will also organise lectures on learning and aging issues, and study groups for improving memory skills. The existence of the partnership will allow partners to share their expertise and knowledge in working with older people and create an invaluable opportunity for each participating country to gain an insight into the traditions, history and cultures of the other groups.
