In the project "My rights - your rights - human rights" 5 groups with a total of 50 young people from the Ruhr area worket together using non-formal and creative methods on the topic "Human rights in out town and in Europe". The project bounded three different levels: at the local level the young people created materials on various topics, such as the situation of refugees, equal rights for men and women, human trafficking, rights of young people. This local level was linked to the regional level through three regional weekend seminars, where all the 5 groups took part and worked together. They started with general information about the topic and continued with deeper discussions about human rights. During these seminars youngsters discussed about their own rights, rights of other people, as well as the humans rights. Participant invited different key figures from politics and society to join them during the workshop time or local meeting and to work together on the topic. The cooperation with international groups happened on the european level. Two meetings calles "language animation" were took place to support the ability of particiants to speak English on the international projects. The European level also was continued by a trip to Brussels in order for the participants to visit and to learn about the European Parliament and the European Commission. The project was primarily created for so-called educationally disadvantaged young people, who often come from immigrant families. The aim of the project was to help them to develop strategies for self-determination, which is based on the determination of their own rights, on respect for the others and being well informed about human rights, on which all the young people are entitled. Through the cooperation and dialogue with the policy makers we wanted to increase their capacity and motivate young people to stand up for their interests.
