Medical Peace Work is a new field of expertise that seeks to strengthen the skills and competencies of health professionals within violence prevention and peace building. Medical Peace Work-II (MPW-II) builds directly on the training resources, new knowledge and competence synergies produced by the Leonardo da Vinci pilot project Medical Peace Work, conducted and successfully completed 2005-2008. Whereas the pilot project focused on physicians as its primary target group, MPW-II intends to make the Medical Peace Work material acknowledged, relevant and visible for the different health profession groups in Europe. In close dialogue with user groups, adjusted versions of the Medical Peace Work online training material are being produced, and the Medical Peace Work textbook will be published in a professional e-book version. And in order to make MPW more visible in the everyday life of European health professionals, the partners produce ‘fact posters’, a ‘video show reel’, and a ‘peace kit for health workers’. Representing health authorities, training institutions, hospitals, health worker associations and NGOs, the MPW consortium works to obtain formal accreditation for the seven MPW online courses and integrate them further into European health training. The goal is to make violence prevention and peace building an integral part of the training provided to European health professionals.The project activities and outcomes are conducted in relation to three cross-cutting dimensions: Thematic, sectoral and geographic. Dynamic dialogue and exchange of ideas are the ‘engine’ in the project. The project benefits from the flexibility provided by new communication technology as well as the energy and creativity that comes with working together in person.Medical Peace Work is a new and constantly evolving area of expertise, and all the products and processes are geared towards further development and expansion.
