The Akademie der media GmbH, founded in 1993, is a private vocational school and an accredited academic institution with officially recognized degrees. The Stuttgart based academy trains around 300 experts and specialists in fields of business, media, education and technical product design. The project participants are trainees and retrainees of institutional apprenticeship in technical product design and media designers in the fields of audio/video as well as digital and print. The trainings concludes with an examination at the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK). At the time of their internship the project participants are in the 2nd or 3rd year of their training and have good English skills as well as excellent knowledge in their respective field of training. Because of their institutional education and professional projects, the participants are very familiar with the common software tools and trained in teamwork and independent working. Nowadays, employees need intercultural competence, language and communication skills to be successful on the job market. International exchanges, like internships, offer the possibility of education and development of skills and competences. The aim of the project is to sensitize the participants for intercultural issues and to enable them to integrate their acquired intercultural knowledge and skills into their everyday work. An internship abroad offers professional new insights and perspectives on their own working area as well as information about the foreign market and its business practices.In order to offer all participants equal chances, we apply for the Erasmus+ grant. Thereby, also less affluent participants will be given the opportunity to go abroad. As many apprentices and retrainees as possible should be able to benefit from the advantages of an internship abroad. The detailed contents of the internships are defined in the contract with the respective companies and approved by the training managers. In view of the positive development on the trainees, the Akademe der media supports and promotes internships abroad and explicitly informs them already at registration about the importance of internships and the possibilities of implementation. An exposition of the project specific motivation for the stay abroad is expected. Sufficient knowledge of the English language is assumed and will be reviewed in English classes. Relevant criteria for the selection of participants are: motivation, cooperation, commitment, and above all the willingness to do an internship abroad. The participants will be personally advised and supported by the foreign advisor before and during the stay abroad. Furthermore, their supervisors and the supervisor in the company take care for the professional development of the interns during theri internship. The partner organization in the target country monitor compliance with the agreement and serve as a local contact in case of problems.Project implementation: • Partner organizations report in the contractually agreed regular cycle • Partner organizations evaluate the participants not only with a reference and the Euro Pass mobility but create an individual evaluation by using a questionnaire • Participants keep a record book, which is signed by the internship company and will be checked and signed monthly by the training manager. • Return to Germany • Submission of internship documentation• Follow-up and discussionIn the context of international internships both sides benefit: Participants gain international work experience and broaden their horizons, the internship companies can count on well-trained, innovative and dedicated interns. The future employers will benefit from the international expertise and highly topical education level of the participants. The Akademie der media sees the long-term benefits in the professional and international exchange with the project partners and participants.
