For now 4 years, Vocational High school Pierre Gilles de Gennes (recently awarded High School of Occupation concerning Cars, Transports and Proceeding) has been sending six third-form- GNVQ- students ( studying car mechanics, truck mechanics and coachbuilding) in famous garages in Stuttgart and its suburb in order to do a four-week-long work placement necessary to pass their diploma. To start with, six 2nd-form students are selected by the educational team among the worthiest at the end of the teachers conference and attend the Pedagogical,Lingusitic and Cultural Preparation course at the beginning of the academic year,, which will help them to make the most of their stay in Germany. Used to working in small and middle car dealerships with a staff of less than 20 employees and located nearby, they are prepared to do their work placement in big German dealerships, and to work on famous car brands at the forefront of technology with a qualified staff, used to dealing with apprentices. Their german tutors know what tasks the trainees should do since they are all listed in the bilingual training report book they have been given on the first day of the period. At the end of the 4 weeks, each trainee is given a mark and an assessment by the tutor, with the help of the speciality French teacher. Along with the vocational improvement , the beneficiaries are going to discover a new way of moving and of thinking about it : train, bus, underground will be their daily means of transports. They will also grow because they will be in contact with another culture, a different environment , will practise a language they have only spoken in school classrooms (be it German or English) before and they will learn to live and to think on a European scale. During the whole stay, they will be hosted in a youth hostel, supervised by a teacher who will be in charge of the weekend outings, of the expenses, and whose presence will garantee that everything will be all right . The students will definitely experience a stay whcih will allow them to think of their future job and life more serenely and ambitiously!
