MATHS IS EVERYWHERE - MATHEMATICAL JOURNEY THROUGH EUROPE
Date du début: 1 sept. 2014, Date de fin: 31 août 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The project “ Maths is everywhere- Mathematical Journey through Europe” is addressed to primary school students and aims to investigate how mathematics is involved in every school subject and how students can learn about different European countries with the help of mathematics. Teaching and learning mathematics has a wide range of different aspects. With this project we intend to find new ways to learn and to teach mathematics. We also intend to find new streams of motivation as well for the teachers and as for the students. Six European primary schools from Finland, Poland, Czech Republic, France, Turkey and Greece will carry out activities which will examine the following two themes. 1. Mathematics as a part of every school subject. Activities and excercises prepared for learning Maths - through History - through Crafts-Arts - through Architecture-Arts - through Physical education - through Music and Drama - through Biology-Geography-Science 2. Studying partner countries through mathematics. All schools will produce a video to present their countries - with a mathematical view included. There will be a joint end product - a travelling doll - each country will have their own doll which will travel from country to country and gather information and experiences that will be shared in each partner school. The themes of the project will be dealt with different activities. Some activities are carried out in the partner schools during the school years and some of the activities will be carried out in workshops which take place in the partner schools at the same time as the project meetings. Each school will have an enhanced exercise portfolio through these activities carried out during the project -electronic pedagogical guide book. Our main pedagogigal objectives are to: - widen the maths teaching repertoire, - solve maths problems in collaboration, related to issues concerning each partner country, - analyze and find mathematical elements in different school subjects, - develop students mathematical creativity through specific didactic games and activities, - develop pupils’ and teachers’ abilities in the use of new technologies and to exchange mathematical activities, - develop new teaching methods and didactic strategies and encourage the active participation, communication, intercultural knowledge among students and the teachers involved in the project. During the project there will be six project meetings, one in each participating school. In these meetings the themes of the project will be discussed, activities will be presented and evaluation of project will be held. Simultaneously to these project meetings workshops for the pupils and teachers will be held. Working together with teachers and students from partner countries brings a strong value in experience to the project.
