Master of Science in Geospatial Technologies
Date du début: 11 sept. 2016, Date de fin: 10 mars 2021 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The International Master Programme (Master of Science) in Geospatial Technologies is a cooperation of the University of Münster (WWU), Institute for Geoinformatics (ifgi), Germany, Universitat Jaume I (UJI), Institute for New Imaging Technologies (iNIT) Castellón, Spain, and, Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UNL), NOVA Information Management School (NOVA IMS), Portugal. The proposed programme is the result of over 15 years of cooperation between the three institutions in international projects and educational programmes including an ongoing EMMC and an ITN-funded PhD programme in Smart Open Cities. The new EMJMD will continue to have a strong positive impact on the growth in internationalization of the three partners. The 3 semester (90 ECTS) Masters is a re-organized continuation of the highly successful 2007 to 2018 programme. The Master Programme starts each year in the fall/winter semester. All courses are taught in English. The first semester provides two alternative learning paths depending on the prior knowledge of students. Courses at UJI focus on the provision of know-how in computer science, new media, and basics of geospatial information. UNL provides modules in statistics, remote sensing, data modelling, and basics of geospatial information. The second semester takes place at WWU for all students and provides them with basic and advanced courses in GIScience. They also take advanced courses in soft skills (research methods, project management) to complement their topical skills. The third semester at one of the three sites is dedicated to the thesis, which is often linked to ongoing research projects. Upon successful completion, the three universities jointly award the degree of “Master of Science” (M.Sc.) with the adjunct “in Geospatial Technologies”. The Master program aims to qualify for life-long learning in the many application areas of Geographic Information (GI), such as environmental planning, health, logistics and transportation, geography, marketing, or energy provision. It is a societal and economic need to educate and qualify personnel working on relevant problems in these fields, e.g., in the context of global challenges. GI is a growing market, offering excellent career chances. Associated partners from industry will support the career development of the graduates. The Master programme educates graduates and professionals from fields such as geography, ecology, geology, surveying, planning, local administration, and computing. The graduates acquire additional essential skills in geospatial technologies, which they can then apply in their respective application areas. The key distinguishing features of this program are (1) that it covers a broad range of geospatial technologies while incorporating cutting edge developments, and (2) that it empowers its graduates to apply these to relevant and emerging domains.
