Magic of Non-formal Learning

Magic of NFL was a 8 days long training course that took place in Tábor, Czech Republic (17th to 25th October 2015). 28 people took part in it - 2 trainers from Romania and Latvia and 26 youth workers, youth leaders, youth activists and peer-to-peer educators from 11 different countries.
With this training course we want to contribute to the improvement of quality of youth work in different European countries by developing the professional competences of youth workers to design and facilitate good quality non-formal learning activities for youth. With this training we helped the participants understand much better the (magic of) non-formal learning process – how it works, what are the principles of good quality non-formal learning and gain concrete skills on how to design and facilitate non-formal learning activities for youth – should it be for the daily work with young people or for some international youth exchanges or seminars.
Becoming a trainer of non-formal learning is definitely a longer process, but to start somewhere, coming to this training course provided participants with a solid ground for becoming a facilitator of concrete NFL activities and this is already a very good way to get experience in order to become a trainer.
We accomplished this aim by a huge variety of activities: games, energizers, ice-breakers, team building exercises, individual and group work, educational activities, thematic workshops, discussions, reflections and presentations. The impact we expected and that we achieved was to contribute to personal and professional development of the participants and also improve the quality of youth work in the partner organizations.
Our training course had an impact not only on the participants, but also on their organizations and the young people that they work with, because with better skills they are able to provide better quality youth work. As a result of what they learned all the participants designed their own 1-hour educational activities for young people, that they shared it the Facebook group and that they can use in their youth work. They also acquired the skills to create such activities on everyday basis.
