PROJECT: "WOOD AND FURNITURE OF BREÑAS WITH EUROPE"
The project focused on enhancing the mobility of teachers of IES Las Breñas based on learning through observation period abroad.
IES Las Breñas is located in the municipality of Brena Baja in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Spain), directed by Jose Roberto Castro Fernández. It was the first Erasmus + project our center.
This project involved two teachers from the Department of Wood and Furniture to update and improve their knowledge in the sector and encourage innovation in teaching practice. Participants were Beatriz Souto Angeles Calvete and Jesus Francisco Pérez González, both belonging to the Corps of Technical Teachers Training Wood and Furniture of the Ministry of Education and Universities of the Canary Islands. None of the teachers had participated in an earlier project Erasmus +.
The main objectives were achieved:
-support the professional development of teachers participating in the Department of Wood and Furniture.
-to improve the English language proficiency.
-closer ties in education of the European Union
-increase awareness and understanding of other cultures and countries
The project started on 1 June 2015, ended on 31 August 2016 and consisted of 3 phases:
-The preparatory phase: prior to the period of mobility. It consisted mainly of selecting the participating teachers in their previous training (linguistic, intercultural ...), to arrange the purchase of tickets, insurance, etc.
Our center IES Las Breñas, was responsible for selecting, preparing and sending participants to the target center.
-The implementation phase of the mobility activities. The total duration of the training period was 13 days (from 02 to 14 May 2015).
The host partner, Chippendale School of Furniture (Gifford Scotland) led by Anselm Fraser, was in charge of welcoming participants and provided them with a program of activities (observation visits and cultural visits).
These activities allowed to know: -the operation of the center, the center's facilities, machinery and tool used, the use of new technologies, the methodology used, new techniques work in carpentry and furniture, new cultures...
The monitoring phase: post-mobility activities. It was to evaluate the activities and the dissemination of results using different tools, generating an impact at local, regional, national and European level, to the extent that information on the experience gained in various sectors (members of Department , Educational Community, Councils, Professional Family wood Furniture and Cork in the Canary Islands, Teachers Association of Vocational Training Family Wood, Furniture and Cork in Spain ...), being a reference for other possible future participants, moving closer to Europe our area.
Through project learning outcomes they were achieved in both the personnel involved and the institution:
- Improving their professional skills related profile of the specific area (wood and furniture) to updating their knowledge, skills and attitudes in their teaching practices.
-More knowledge of the educational system in another European country.
-Improves of foreign language skills especially in the field.
-Improvement of the quality of their work and activities for students.
-The acquisition an experience that will allow in the future to encourage the students to engage in mobility through Erasmus +, which subsequently facilitate their integration into the job market.
-Extrapolate acquired knowledge to everyday methodology with students and colleagues.
-More motivation and satisfaction in everyday work.
-Increase awareness and understanding of other cultures and countries in Europe
In the long run the Department will benefit from the experience:
-Taking into practice the acquired learning.
- Motivating other partners face to present other projects in the future and encouraging the students to approach Europe.
