Machine for Microparts Moulding based on UltraSound excitation (SONO”R”US)
Date du début: 1 mai 2011, Date de fin: 30 avr. 2013 PROJET  TERMINÉ

"A breakthrough concept in the manufacture of plastic micro and mini parts: the SONO“R”US Project will introduce into the market the first moulding machine based on the ultrasounds. Taking profit of previous results achieved by Sonoplast (Collaborative Project from the FP7), SONO“R”US intends to develop an optimized, ready-to-market ultrasonic moulding machine.Following an increasing trend in miniaturization, the project has an impact in economically strategic areas like biomedicine, electronics, optics, precision engineering, etc. In this context, injection moulding has proved to be the most precise, flexible and profitable technology for large-scale replication of thermoplastic parts. However, the solutions available for micromoulding simply adapt the concepts used for bigger parts. That perfectly explains the limitations in terms of dosage, accuracy and repetitiveness.Sonoplast has demonstrated that, up to now, ultrasound injection moulding is the only technology able to face those technical difficulties. The project culminated in a fully functional prototype which allowed validating the new technology and producing high quality parts. Even though, there are still relevant points that must be improved in order to successfully introduce the machine in the market and exploit new market niches. Therefore, the goal of SONO“R”US is to deliver a machine perfectly adaptable to market needs. This equipment must de developed according to new parameters of ultrasounds while complying with technical requirements of micromoulding, like repetitiveness, quality, profitability, etc. Our main challenge is to produce micro and mini parts featuring very complex geometries through a higher of dosage."
