MA European Youth Studies

This project develops a full Bologna MA in European Youth Studies (MA EYS) to enhance the quality of the human resources available to youth research, policy and practice in Europe, in line with the Lisbon Strategy and the European Youth Pact and towards a transversal youth strategy. It contributes to the modernisation of higher education by designing an integrated course for an international and multilingual student body. It generates an advanced European-level specialist and interdisciplinary qualification to equip young adults with ERI-knowledge triangle capacities: a new generation of professionals working across national and occupational boundaries in youth-related fields. It lends added value to the European Higher Education Area with the fully cooperative development of an integrated course of study by leading figures from 11 HEIs in different countries, supported by key European stakeholders and associated partners.The MA EYS project delivers- a blended learning curriculum that includes conventional, self-directed, peer-group and practice-related approaches and methods in F2F, virtual and mobility-based settings- an exemplar for working across languages and discourses (multi-language course literature, student assignments and peer-group learning combined with EN as lingua franca for core community activities)- a prototype virtual learning environment capable of facilitating linguistically flexible interactive teaching and learning between F2F modules- a report on the results of piloting an e-module and residential seminar- a study guide with module descriptions, learning aims, forms of assessment, student support guidelines and governance provisions- a course reader and a multi-language e-library of course materials and literature- an implementation plan including inter-institutional cooperation agreements and faculty composition, course accreditation procedures, student recruitment and selection, course funding and fee arrangements, and quality assurance mechanisms together with monitoring tools- formative and summative internal and external evaluation reports of the project- information and dissemination activities (website, brochure, presentations, etc.) and an end-of-project conference reportImpact and sustainability features notably include- strengthening the human resources base by developing transferable knowledge and competence for the expanding sector of educational and social services, most particularly in the youth sector and linking policy with action- mobilising flexible specialists capable of working in trans-national and intercultural contexts in anticipation of knowledge-based labour markets- re-stocking the European scientific community for youth studies as the foundation for evidence-based transversal youth policy- generating polyvalent networks and multipliers committed to the broader European integration agenda, both between HE professionals and (on implementation) across graduate cohorts- providing an example of European Higher Education Area good practice in inter-institutional cooperation between countries and between universities, civil society stakeholders and youth-related transnational institutions and agencies in Europe- demonstrating the potential for sustained cooperation between universities with strong regional identities and proximities to cultural and linguistic diversities- projected MA EYS implementation from 2011 as a double or joint degree between at least two universities in the project consortium
