Requirements which technical secondary school former students have to meet are growing steadily. The Technical Secondary School students must face these requirements and adjust themselves to the present-day labour market requirements. Erasmus Plus project makes a chance to update education in the area of construction professions as well as to equip students in skills necessary for their profession. Thanks to the project “Lublin Technicians acquire European skills” realized by ZSB (Lublin Construction Secondary School) with the cooperation of our partnership institution Vitalis GmbH, 10 students from our school were be able to do their vocational practice in Germany, which was organized by Vitalis GmbH. The project lasted from 15.12.2014 to 14.12.2015. The vocational training took place between 24.05.2015 and 06.06.2015. The participants were the third class students specializing as construction technicians (5 students) and plumbing technicians (5 students). They did two week vocational training in our German partner's workshop in Schkeuditz near Leipzig. The main purpose of the project was to acquire new qualifications and increase vocational skills by our students. The students improved their construction skills and developed the key competencies. Our German partner workshops are equipped in specialized equipment and machinery which are not available for our students. Our students familiarized with the latest construction technologies as well as how to operate new machinery. The training was supervised by experienced instructors. The project enabled its participants to establish contacts with teenagers from other countries (in our partnership institution young people from all over Europe were trained) and to improve their German. The students were equipped in particular knowledge and skills in the area of organization and doing construction works, they learnt how to use machinery and tools which make the capital equipment of a plant, adjust to team work and employee discipline requirements. They acquired the knowledge in the field of workplace organization, work quality assessment, implementation of the environmental protection as well as health and safety rules. During their vocational training the students did some installation and renovation work on the premises. They were supervised by well qualified German instructors. Plumbing technicians, among other tasks, installed floor and wall heating and did some preparatory work for toilet installation. The construction technician students plastered walls, painted rooms, did some reinforced concrete elements or joints in stone walls. The students were happy to be given these tasks and the instructors praised students' engagement and their professional attitude towards work. The integral part of the vocational training was the cultural programme. The students went for a two day trip to Berlin (they visited Reichstag, The Technical Museum, The Historical Museum or the Brandenburg Gate and the city centre). They visited Leipzig and its surroundings. Moreover, Polish students took part in various sports and free-time activities. Thanks to the training young people who will start their professional career have been equipped in international vocational experience, will have no professional, language and cultural complexes. This experience has significantly improved their opportunities to find a job in Poland as well as in other European countries. All students got the Europass-Mobility certificate. After the vocational training, the students are more open-minded. They perceive European integration in the context of Poland's development opportunities quite differently. The students were completely satisfied with their experience and they are convinced that they gained a lot in the area of professional competences. After the training their knowledge and skills exceed their peers' competences. The realization of the project and its popularization in the educational and professional environment made our school perceived to be more prestigious and more attractive for the lower high school students, the educational authorities and employers. This directly influences the school's reputation as well as student enrollment. Our students have become attractive employees for the local building contractors.
