LOPEC Logistics personal excellence by continuous self-assessment
In a knowledge society where demands for skills, competencies and knowledge constantly increase and change, lifelong learning is a key strategy to adjust people’s performance capabilities to new requirements and grantee employability in the world of work. Good examples for this are the current changes in the logistics environment. Regularly, new services and processes close to production were taken into the portfolio of logistics enterprises, so the daily tasks are changing continuously for the skilled works. For the operation and management of these tasks new principles, approaches and methods where raised and applied within the last years. This includes innovative trends like the transfer of Lean Manufacturing to the area of logistics. To skilled workers of the secondary educational level, this know-how usually remains undisclosed. This gap of knowledge could be closed by the participation in the tertiary education. However, this is usually not possible due to educational laws and certification requirements connected with the existing school education. LOPEC therefore aims in closing this gap by offering1) special-tailored training modules for "Lean Logistics" and required basic skills for skilled workers on shopfloor level implemented into the learning environment ILIAS. Needed know-how for today’s challenges in logistics will be transferred. Additionally they could be taken for credit as further education, aiming at acquiring the needed recognition to enter a job-related Bachelors program. Another aspect of LOPEC was the development2) of a "personal excellence self-assessment (PEX)" and3) a self-assessment "Logistics Personal Excellence (LOPEX)" that allows a person to assess and thus improve his/her own level of maturity in employability skills.To reach this goal, LOPEC build up on the self-assessment software solution of the SAETO project family which “translated” EFQM for the use within the education and training sector. Pex was implemented into the GOA-Software and the self assessment LOPEX was implemented into the learning environment ILIAS.As results LOPEC provides training modules for post-secondary education in the area of LEAN logistics and offers transparency of personal excellence with a personal and logistics self-assessment software solution, regarding the personal maturity level of hard and soft skills at any time. It can be used as an innovative tool for monitoring personal lifelong learning routes.
