Look beyond ! Training in the sector of European Catering and Tourism
Date du début: 1 nov. 2014, Date de fin: 31 oct. 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The project seeks to fill the gap between the considerable influx of national and international tourism already drawn to Sardinia's unique cultural heritage and natural beauty, and the lack of an integrated, diversified system capable of taking Sardinia to the next level by giving the island a strategic edge in a highly competitive market, embracing the full range of cultural tourism opportunities. In view of the competitive international market, the quality of facilities, services, and particularly human resources in Sardinia's hospitality industry lag behind international industry standards. The schools involved in Look Beyond! will expand educational opportunities that focus on developing a market that operates all year round, as well as exciting hands-on training opportunities in the professional management of tourist accommodation facilities. The training will also raise participants' awareness of the European professional training environment and work, combining local development needs with those on a global scale and offering them updated professional and cross-curricular skills in order to be prepared for the real life working environment complexity and flexibility. The project's multiple objectives include: student evaluation and comparison of various procedures and organizational approaches in order to expand on-the-job knowledge, skills and abilities; student participation in host country social and cultural life; broadening personal horizons while deepening participants' understanding of cultural diversity; strengthening language, communication and social skills; gaining or improving knowledge of specific professional terminology. In the long term, program participants will reap the additional benefits of developing a wide range of personal skills such as leadership, business sense, self-esteem and a sense of self-empowerment. Additionally, participants can expect to develop skills in working across cultures, in self-motivation, as well as a greater appreciation for the value of life long-learning in the professional domain.Furthermore, Look Beyond! aims to foster cooperation between local businesses and vocational institutions by encouraging the comparison of training methods, by facilitating work-study vocational programs, as well as through the creation of a common reference framework for certifying professional skills for use by local and overseas companies. In practical terms, the project will provide training in practical skills, job knowledge and professional attitudes certified and certifiable according to Europass system standards. One hundred and twenty fourth and fifth-year students from the Vocational Catering Schools will take part in the project. Twenty-four of these will be selected from among recent graduates. Destinations are the United Kingdom, Malta, and Spain for a three-week training period following the blended learning model. The first week of the learning experience will take place in the classroom with FL lessons focused on the specific needs and objectives of the students. Over the following two weeks, students will participate in apprenticeships focused on practical experience with local companies operating in sectors matching each participant's profile and matching the objectives of the project. A learning outcomes approach will be used .
