LogVAS - Logistic potentials for value added services in port-located areas (LogVAS)
Date du début: 31 août 2005, Date de fin: 28 févr. 2008 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The traffic flow in the Baltic Sea Region rises immediately and several studies forecast an ongoing dynamic growth in the upcoming years. Ports can benefit from this growth if they do not serve as water-gates only but also create Value Added Services (VAS) on the goods handled. In order to implement the most efficient VAS in the respective ports it is vital to acquire information regarding the kind of goods, transport flows as well as volume. Thus one of the projects objective is to gain a integrated data basis for traffic flows within the Baltic Sea Region. Based on such a general data base business concepts for ports and also their respective corresponding ports are possible to elaborate. Potential VAS can be identified and implemented. Moreover the data base which can be acquired due to different studies can be used for a Baltic Sea Region Traffic Model, which allows the user to visualise transport flows regarding their goods, their volumes as well as their direction. Moreover not only the ports can and will benefit also regions bordering the Baltic Sea can profit. The meaning of logistics for the local and regional development, particularly in port-located areas, is becoming more and more important. The increasing complexity and the rising dynamics of supply chains save a substantial potential for the contribution of services, which transcend the transport, the turnover and the pure storekeeping of goods. Thus traffic and logistics have become important competition factors for the producing economy as well as a growth market for the service provider in logistics. The regional development profits thereby by new jobs and economic growth. It must succeed to feed new economy power to port-located areas and to seize the opportunities, which were used insufficiently so far.In detail the different projects objectives are to:Develop a traffic model for the Baltic Sea RegionCreate an information basis and to identify logistic potential for VAS in the BSRDraw viable logistic market concepts which combine sea, rail road, air and inland waterway transportIntensify cooperation and the division of labour on the trans-national and intra-regional levelCreate logistic mapsEnhance investments in ports, commercial areas and their hinterland connectionsProvide transparency and enable economic as well as political planning strategiesCreate a forum for co-operation between public actors as well as the science across borders and sectors.
