I am writing this as the coach on behalf of the Llanover Hall Youth Theatre, who would like to develop a film/video making group over the duration of a year. We hope to involve and engage a minmum of 30 new young people as production crew and performersThe group would like to engage young people from the surrounding communities in many aspects of digital video making in workshops based at Llanover Hall Arts Centre,open to anyone aged 14-25 who wants to attend. The group have a wide range of performance and production skills in theatre and would like to transfer these skills to the activities of short fictional film-making, community films and documentaries. The group will develop their script-writing and story-boarding skills; learn and develop their camera and technical shooting skills; apply and adapt their performance skills to the medium of video including directing and rehearsing; shoot their own footage under professional conditions; use computers and video editing tools to construct and enhance the raw footage; present their films to the public on a large screen, upload to internet video sites and to explore the public showing of their work in other European countries. The group hope to increase their employability through the learning and development of new skills.The group will develop and produce work around different local, national and European themes, researching the way short films and documentaries are constructed in other countries, embracing their forms of narrative and mise-en-scene.The group will run workshops for other young people in all the activities listed above, learning and passing on their knowledge to newcomers. The succession of premieres of their work on large cinema screens will be a celebration of their achievement as well as portraying a strong message of how film-making can be used as a tool to bring young people from different backgrounds and cultures together at a local and European level. The group wish to invite members of the local community/schools/youth centres to the screenings of their work to showcase their achievements and to show what can be achieved by young people given the opportunities, resources and the support of a coach. They hope that this process will attract more participants in future projects.
