LIVE ON THE KARST is a scientific studies project about karst, a lanscape caused by the action of water on limestone. The water infiltrates into the limestone and dig caves and underground drainage systems. Our 4 high schools, from 3 European countries (France, Italy and Slovenia) , wishing to work together in this project LIVE ON THE KARST, are situated at the heart of a karstic zone in the mediterranean area. Our main goal is to address low achievement in basic skills by teach in a more efficient and innovative way : - Scientific investigations in the field with interdisciplinary approaches and partnership with university allow to teach differently and increase the motivation and school ambition of pupils --> we will produce lessons and didactic tools (DIDAKARST laboratory) for different scientific disciplines, and we will disseminate this lessons and didactic tools on Internet platforms such as eTwinning, Open Education Europe Portal and national education servers. - Exploring subterranean environment develop skills and expertises with strong values such as solidarity, sharing, respect, involvement. --> the pupils will understand the importance of the preservation of the karstic areas and of intelligent use of water resources in order to achieve real savings and achieve specific skills for the management of surface water and groundwater. - The exchanges between our 3 European countries on the same scientific issue will allow all the students to develop the English language and a cultural openness on the Mediterrean karstic area in Europe. --> Teaching and English language training to prepare students for international trade ans studies.. - The subterranean environment is made of numerous natural and human heritages. Facing these heritages, their strong values and the complexity of their evolution are strong educative experiences. 120 participants from the 4 countries will be involved in the exchange activities between mixed groups of pupils of different nationalities, during which exchange staff procedures and different approaches to the study of karst and karst water conservation, using teaching methods similar and twill create the knowledge and tools for education in diversity and interculturalism in the school environment . These activities takes place in the time of the 3 years of this projets, with previous and new pupils every year who take advantage of the work realised previous years and complete : - Production of lessons for scientific school subjects : each school will develop a Didactic Unit in one of the subjects , both in their mother tongue and in English specifying all course materials and instrumentation required, all the pupils will be provided basic professional knowledge or will be given specialized professional knowledge and competence, that they can deal with the study and management of superficial and subterranean hydro resources.. - Parallel lessons in different schools - phone calls : filling in of a questionnaire about regional issues. - Presentation of research results on implementation and management of both superficial and subterranean hydro resources during activities of teaching learning and formation. - Distribution of lessons and didactic tools on internet platforms eTwinning and Open Educational Europe regional and national school server. Expected impacts : Students’ concentrate study at different levels (research, technical training, product creation) on the subject of relevance of karst and of karst water resources improves awareness and lets the acquired knowledge to be transferred to the community. The need to communicate in English improves linguistic competences , especially as far as the technical vocabulary is concerned. Information on the results achieved with the project will be found in publications on the school website, local newspaper articles and in exhibitions arranged to this end. Moreover educational materials will be given directly to all school students and the results will also be made available to parents and inhabitants of some local and regional areas. The second part of the project, concerning the output of educational materials to be used in all countries involved in the project, in line with national and international standards/rules, is regarded as an important step for spreading “ good practice” in the national and international context.
