A group of 12 young people based in the Lisburn area of N. Ireland wish to initiate a project which uses interactive workshops and informal discussion to plan and deliver 'Lisburn Festive Impact' - a series of 4 opportunities for 300 local young people. These will include a chance to enjoy festive celebrations in a safe environment, serve the marginalized in their community in a practical way and enrol to join summer teams which provide international volunteering opportunities primarily in European countries.The project will begin in September 2011 and be completed by the end of February 2012. The theme is Media and communications/Youth information with a secondary theme of Youth Leisure.The preparation for 'Lisburn Festive Impact' will involve: 1. Two night residential.2. Minimum of 3 group work sessions to learn and develop the relevant skills and plan and shape the events. 3. Three events to recruit, train and resource 30 additional youth advocates from the Lisburn area to publicize the events to be held.4. A series of formal and informal presentations in local schools and universities.The main activity will be the series of 4 opportunities in the 'Lisburn Festive Impact'1. One act of service for the marginalized within the community2. Two fun, safe nights of celebration.3. One event to highlight volunteering opportunities across EuropeFollowing 'Lisburn Festive Impact' the group will evaluate the process, endeavouring to determine how these methods of learning, planning and delivery could be used in the future to involve young people in participation with their community locally and across Europe. Our main aims:1. To develop skills and good practice in youth work.2. To develop skills which would improve employability (eg. Leadership, Setting Direction, Decision Making, People and Resource Management, Communicating and Influencing, Innovation and Change)3. To positively impact the marginalized within the Lisburn community.4. To lead a team of volunteers in promoting and delivering the 'Lisburn Festive Impact'5. To involve more young people in volunteering opportunities that reach the marginalized in Europe.6. To have the chance to creatively shape and plan both fun and service opportunities for peers in Lisburn.
