The LCFE Mobility project addresses priorities such as International mobility and the promotion of European cooperation for the development of core skills that contribute to economic growth as set out in Europe 2020 and Irelands National Strategy 2025Language skills have been identified as skills that are high in demand in the Irish labour market. The LCETB FET sector aims to provide programmes to meet the skills of the local and national market. As a major provider of FE programmes within the LCETB FET Service, LCFE is committed to developing a European dimension and sees the value international mobility can play in the development of core skills and knowledge through lifelong learning. This is outlined in the LCFE Strategic Plan 2014-2018 The college is also committed to expanding its foreign language provision and encouraging learners to take foreign languages as a subject option. These goals also contribute to priorities set out in Europe 2020 and Irelands National Skills Strategy 2025 and also LCETB FET Service Strategic Plan. Opportunities to undertake work placements abroad should increase the demand for foreign language options in the college. LCFE has been involved in mobility projects since 1998. The college has built strong very valuable partnerships with employers and with its partner institutions abroad. Erasmus Plus funding would enable LCFE to strengthen and expand these partnerships which in line with the LCFE Strategic Plan would promote the European dimension within LCFE. The project would meet the following objectives:• Contribute to targets and priorities set out in Europe 2020, SOLAS Further Education and Training Strategy, Irelands National Skills Strategy 2025 in improving skills and competencies of people in education and training which in turn leads to economic growth.• Promote lifelong learning and encourage the European dimension of lifelong learning through transnational cooperation.• Expand and strengthen the European dimension in LCFE through strategic partnerships with educational institutions and employers in another EU country.• Promote a culture of innovation and support communities of practice and networks, creating opportunities for staff to exchange ideas and share best practice• Promote enhanced European cooperation in vocational education and training as outlined in the Copenhagen Declaration 2002 by strengthening and expanding links with partner institutions and employers in another EU country.• Give participants the opportunity of acquiring a broad knowledge of the world of work in a European context. Participants will experience how their specific vocational area operates in a foreign work environment.• Give participants the opportunity of enhancing their interpersonal skills.• Open up new prospects for employment for participants. The participants involved are people undergoing initial vocational training. Participants will be selected from (a) QQI Level 5 Certificate in Marketing course (one year, full time course aimed at providing students with a solid foundation in the knowledge and skills required for employment in the Marketing and Sales area of business). (b) QQI Level 5 Travel and Tourism Services course (one year course aimed at students who wish to make a career in the Tourism industry. Participants will have completed five months of their training before going on work placement. There will be 10 participants selected for each flow. The Erasmus Plus Programme Coordinator will in liaison with the International Officer in Lycee De La Salle source suitable placements for selected participants on the LCFE Mobility Project in their vocational area.Participants will undertake a 3 week work placement in Rennes in France during the month of February. It is envisaged that the LCFE Mobility Project will:• Enable participants to acquire new knowledge and skills through work in a work environment in another EU country. This will facilitate participants personal development, employability and participation in the European Labour Market.• Increase the volume of mobility throughout Europe of people involved in initial vocational education and training through transnational work placements.• Encourage the learning of modern foreign languages. The Erasmus Plus programme will be made available to learners on courses in Limerick College of Further Education that take a foreign language element.• Improve the skills and competencies of people in initial vocational training at all levels with a view to facilitating their integration and reintegration into the labour market. Participants are given the opportunity of learning through work.• Enable LCFE to meet one of its strategic goals which is to encourage and develop a European dimension in the college.
