Lifting Each Other Up
Date du début: 1 août 2016, Date de fin: 28 févr. 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The situation in Europe with the refugees has started many discussions and debates among our partners and youth organizations. The different European countries deal with this issue in different ways, hence our partner organizations have different understanding and approaches. Throughout the last year, we have read and seen many events that have been triggered by the relationship that refugees develop in the Western alcohol culture. This situation opens a void created by lack of understanding and awareness, that this project should fill in.The project should create a perfectly safe environment for young people from many different backgrounds to be able to share, learn by doing and exchange their views and experiences, in order to raise awareness and gain skills to work with prevention methods for young migrants. In order to be able to work with these issues, the project stands on two main topic clusters: ways of integration and ways of prevention. The first one relies on understanding the different cultural and ethical starting points for the young migrants, the crisis they have been through and the ways to deal with the situation they are in, with the aim of building a new life in Europe. The second one on the other hand relies on exchanging most attractive and best methods for prevention work for young people, especially exploring the alcohol culture in Europe and in the countries of origin of the young migrants. The exchange is hosted in Italy with the aim of understanding the situation of the migrants more closely, as well as getting to know the specific prevention method the Italian family clubs have developed. This is a perfect spot for learning more about both of these issues and being inspired by local activism. Through a week of creative non-formal methodologies, our participants have the aim to understanding the background of these issues, in order to be able to build plans for local actions. After this week, our partner organizations should have the skills to be able to address the conflicting alcohol relationship that young migrants develop in Europe and to be able to work and open space for creating local activities together with them. Each of the participants will organize a local workshop in their home organizations in order to multiply the knowledge and raise awareness, but mostly in order to make a national decision of ways to work with these questions on local level. We put the trust in the capability of the partner organizations to actually decide how they want to use the gained skills locally, since we understand there are many differences between the involvement in integration local activism among them. The project should make sure that the participants working with prevention among young people in Europe should be able to understand and create specific prevention programs for the young people with migrant background.
