The furniture sector in EU is facing significant challenges in competing inthe globalized market. The increased reliance on a skilled workforce andefficient production techniques is being compromised by a lack ofsufficiently knowledgeable workers, especially in skilled and managementpositions. Better training of the existing workforce and prospective jobseekers in the sector is needed, to maintain and upgrade theirqualifications and skills and to continually transfer the acquiredcompetencies in the same time as new ones are created. To respond tothese needs, the LILAC project aims at implementing and testing a Webbasedplatform that integrates competence management, e-learning andknowledge management to the benefit of employees working in anorganisation. The final outputs of the project will be: a Web-based systemthat manages job roles and related competencies of relevance to thefurniture industry, allows to perform competence assessments and toshare a knowledge base of information catalogued according to thosecompetencies. As such, this system acts as training support tool,enabling users to identify skills gaps and related training needs, and willpoint them directly to appropriate resources to meet those needs. Thesystem will be multilingual: user interface and job profiles will be availablein all the consortium languages (English, French, Italian, Spanish). LILACwill be built on a prototype, already available, developed and validatedduring 2 previous ESF Article 6 projects (KnowMove and Change-Up). ;training pathways on topics relevant to the furniture industry connecting anumber of e-learning modules (knowledge pills or learning objects)related to one or more job profiles identified in the system. These elearningmodules will be available in all the consortium languages. -LILAC responds to Leonardo’s Priority 6 by developing and pilot testing astate-of-the-art tool to assist the delivery of training in all contexts,particularly supporting individuals undertaking self-directed learning, byhelping them to identify their skills gaps and consequently pointing themto the most appropriate learning and knowledge resources to close thosegaps. The system is therefore a Performance Support tool, providingresources to allow for on demand learning. The project partnershipincludes organisations with a proven record of providing training servicesto the furniture industry, and will ensure that a wide number of targetusers are reached in each country. Each partner directly represents amembership base of furniture manufacturers, or provides training toprospective job seekers in the furniture industry. Moreover, although thesystem will be tailored to and pilot tested in the furniture sector, it will beeasily adaptable to be used across the largest variety of industries.
