The project Life skills for rural eudcation is a long-term EVS project bringing together 10 volunteers from Germany, Austria, France, New Caledonia, Spain, Portugal and Italy. The project has as a general topic educational development in Baia Mare and rural areas around, by introducing non-formal methods into primary schools and high-schools. The 10 volunteers will be hosted in Baia Mare and will work both in the Maramures and in the surroundings: Grosi, Firiza, Cernesti, Alunis, Danesti. The service of the volunteers will last 12 months and it will start in March 2016. The main activities implemented by the 10 participants can be divided in two categories: constant activities (assisting educational activities in schools from rural areas, providing afterschool opportunities for children in villages, assisting language lessons in schools and high schools of Baia Mare, providing help in kindergartens, supporting youngsters in Baia Mare to pass different language exams or competitions) and short term activities (seminars on human rights, personal community projects in villages, intercultural evenings, summer camps in the villages, local events in villages). The main objectives of the project are:O1 To develop facilitation/training competences in socio-animation for 10 volunteers from Italy, Germany, Austria, New Caledonia, France, Spain and Portugal using non-formal methodology with disadvantaged pupils in rural schools during 12 months of service. O2 To improve practical teaching skills for 10 volunteers to integrate non-formal education tools in their future careers in formal education field by creating, adapting and testing new pedagogical strategies using both non-formal and formal intruments;O3 To foster attractiveness and eficiency of the learning process as a life long process for 1500 children and youngsters from Maramures and Salaj through having 10 volunteers involved in language classes, afterschool activities and community projects, using alternative methods for learningO4 To enhance the importance of non-formal education as complementary to formal education for 3000 rural Romanian inhabitants. The main expected learning results are for the 10 volunteers to develop competences in creative teaching and confidence in public speaking. At the same time, the project brings a lot of intercultural learning opportunities for the volunteers and for the beneficiaries and hosting communities, as well. Some of the products developed in the project are EVS promotion post-cards and language teaching games and materials. On a long term, the project aims at bringing diverse teaching methods in schools from Baia Mare and surrounding areas, as well as to promote the concept of EVS on an international level, to people that have never heard of youth work or voluntary programmes abroad.
